Did anyone else watch "Beyond Belief" on ABC tonight? It was on people who have had near-death experiences. What I got out of it is that the other side is a sublime place, far different from what we can know in this life. Nevertheless, one can't go there until one's work is done. At least one person on the show did and was told to go back.
One of the people interviewed talked about the light. She said it was unlike any light we know of. Everyone talked about the wonderful feeling of being there and how one knows there will be no more pain.
The show was hosted by Bob Woodruff, who, if you remember, was almost killed when he was reporting in Iraq in '06. This is a bit unusual and I think it made for a better show--a reporter who has experienced the phenomena on which he is reporting. He asked some very good questions, especially when he talked to the woman who was and still is an athiest.
Now keep in mind, there are athiests who believe in an afterlife. They just don't believe in a God. I don't think this woman was one of them, though. She told him he should cherish his experience and he responded that if her point of view was correct, why should he? He said it wouldn't be any more special than any other experience. She puzzled me. I couldn't quite figure out what her outlook on this topic was.
None of the people interviewed said they feared death.
If you want to watch it online, here's the site:
http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/beyondbelief/Warning, however. I tried watching another episode a couple weeks ago and had tech problems at their site. Don't be surprised if there are problems. In my case, the show stopped showing the video midway through. The audio kept playing though.
