Curcummin in curry helps with alzheimers

The pigment that gives curry spice its yellow hue may also be able to break up the "plaques" that mark the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients, early research suggests.

Scientists found that curcumin, a component of the yellow curry spice turmeric, was able to reduce deposits of beta-amyloid proteins in the brains of elderly lab mice that ate curcumin as part of their diets.

In addition, when the researchers added low doses of curcumin to human beta-amyloid proteins in a test tube, the compound kept the proteins from aggregating and blocked the formation of the amyloid fibers that make up Alzheimer's plaques.

Accumulation of beta-amyloid proteins in the brain is one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.

1. Wow! Once again, our cornicorpia planet
has the answer to what ails us. No surprise there. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they can actually find a cure for this horrid disease?

3. It's also an Ayurvedic healing herb,
as pointed out in the article:

Long used as part of traditional Indian medicine, curcumin is now under study as a potential cancer therapy, and animal research has suggested the compound might serve as a treatment for multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis.

From a book on my shelf, author Vasant Lad says,

"Turmeric is the best medicine in Ayurveda."

5. This is great! We have a woman who is
the Alzheimer's co-ordinator for the county that comes into the co-op and has given us literature on this very same herb.

Another thing that she has found to be helpful for Alzheimer patients is the cell salt/aka/tissue salt and homeopathic remedy.."Silicea".

Also known as "Silica".."it is a cleanser and eliminator. It is a deep acting remedy which helps the body to throw off non-functional organic matter."

I, personally, have found the cell salts to be quite healing in other areas, too.

6. Hmm - is there any association between people who manufacture
plaque that coats the teeth and the plaque that coats arteries?

And where do you get this tumeric?

7. Tumeric should be available in the spice section,
or a bulk food store. I wonder if health food places sell it - anyone?

14. :) where i live, it's everywhere.
turmeric is available to just about everywhere in metro america, or at least all the places i've been too. should be available in most minor cities in their supermarket's spice aisle.

here i can get fresh turmeric in the produce section in well over most of my supermarkets in the produce section (it looks like fresh ginger by the way, when you open it up its flesh is yellow though). that and i'm surrounded by ethnic mini-grocers, including tons of indian grocers. yes, i'm spoiled...
:P

but this is good news, now to make a good maharaja chicken and side of yellow dal.

8. you can find it at a health food store
most likely you will find it as "curcumin."

People in India actually take the tumeric powder, such as a teaspoonful a day.

Tumeric also has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties.

10. You can get it in capsules
at Whole Foods or probably other health food stores. It is also used for arthritis against the inflamation.

11. thanks Nancy. Could everyone do me a big favor please? go to
Digit's thread about sex offenders.

I have posted there about a family with five children who appear to be in danger.

If everyone could please send protective white light and prayers I would be so thankful. The more people we can enlist to send prayer and white light the safer they may be.

Many thanks

Pallas

13. No.
"curcummin" is turmeric, the bright yellow/orange spice used in curries, some mustards, and other south asian cooking.
