Pan's Labyrinth
This movie is really well done. Subtitles, bring your glasses if you need 'em.
It has some rather hideous violent scenes. Not all are intensely graphic in the violence thankfully.I did have to look away twice.

Anyways this movie I think reflects the ugly unspoken truth of the powers of this world, directly and what our real home is about and what it takes really, to get there. Pan's labyrinth cuts through the belief -ism clutter and shreds emotional defenses that make people stupid or numb about how to deal with evil in this world. It also hints what other worlds might be, better than most things I have seen or read up till now. Pan looks totally wild.Like a living sculpture. The faeries are awesome.

If you go see it, be prepared... for it's emotional truth will speak to your spirit like waves of thunder, rage and tears and a punch in the heart it's so true. And the little girl is just beautiful. This is a very very spiritual movie and very gnostic...Bring kleenex.

3. I've really been looking forward to seeing it. There really aren't many movies...
coming out lately that interest me, but this one did right away as soon as I saw the trailer for it.

Thanks, undergroundpanther!

4. It was an incredible experience
and I must say... since Spanish is my native tongue, it was jarring to hear such formal spanish from Pan... in fact in the begining it was incredibly surprising... that is the kind of Spanish you'd expect in the 18th or 19th century... but not quite at the end of the Spanish Civil war

I guess being a native speaker I was only surprised by two bad translations in the subtitles, which for a movie of that lenth ain't bad at all... amusingly, this is the only time my conscious mind caught on the subs

5. question about film...
How violent and gory is the movie? I am very intrigued and want to see it, yet am extremely visually sensitive, get very scared at frightening stuff and remember gory and violent visual imput for a looooong time. I read the Yahoo reviews and some said that it was extremely gory. Is it?

6. At certain parts - pretty gory
But they're isolated scenes, the whole movie isn't gory. Some scenes with the commander of the army post, the girl's step father, are pretty nasty. He's a real character, not in a good way.

The movie was good enough to make it worth covering your eyes at those parts though. On the other hand, my friend I went with didn't like the movie for that very reason - she thought the violent parts were gratuitous.
