Recurring driving dream...need help, please...

Apparently I did not resolve the issue that surrounds this dream, as I am having it again.
If any of you would care to help, I'd be ever so grateful.

In the dream, I'm attempting to drive a vehicle from outside the car (within a different vehicle).:shrug: Yes, I know impossible and strange. In the dream, I'm attempting to maintain control of the vehicle, from the car behind it. The car I'm trying to drive goes farther than I can see or maintain any sense of control over--which frightens me, it goes too far and too fast. Since I'm not in that actual car, I'm concerned about what will happen as the car progresses--I can't see and have no idea as I'm not behind the wheel of that car. :crazy:

The car I'm in, I'm not driving--but I'm not sure who is. I get angry with someone in the vehicle I'm in. He distracts me, and because of his distraction I feel I'm losing control of the car ahead of me. When I completely lose sight of the car ahead, I'm also fearful that it has been stolen by someone that sees it without a driver and thinks it's up for grabs.

The car itself is old. I seem to recall that it was a VW, possibly a ragtop convertible--but the top was not down. I only recall this because I had to compile the information at a point in the dream, as I was going to report it as stolen. This seems to be the information that I recall about it.

Interesting--in reality, as a teen and young adult I was in love with that type of car. No particular color stands out regarding the car. It was just driving out ahead of me, without anyone behind the wheel--and I am "driving" it from behind it, in another vehicle.

It may be telling you that you are still too concerned with "driving an 'other' vehicle" than your own, (being concerned with issues not at the core of your life and mission).

Possibly the car ahead (the VW model which you love) is your life/mission, and you are busy driving a car with irritating distractions (because you do know that you are not as in the driver's seat of your mission as you could be) while having trouble keeping yours in sight - and being afraid of losing it altogether.....

It might be that you have too many distractions from outside your self (or by your personal choice of the moment) to not be as on track as you would like to be in your daily life, and this feeling comes through loud and clear with this lovely dream.

Your interpretation and meaning may be something entirely different, but this is what your dream says clearly to me and my experience.

What I see is an attempt to control an aspect of the larger. While you are so focused on the smaller component (the car in front), you make no mention of the larger issue (the car you are in). You say that the person in the car with you is distracting you, thereby making you lose sight of the smaller car, but he has also made you lose sight of the larger car, which controls the smaller one. Therefore, his distraction is working on two levels, the immediate (losing the smaller car) and the long-term (preventing you from controlling the larger car, which in turn controls the smaller).

Because of the type of car (smaller) is something from your past that you seemed to enjoy, this may represent an aspect of those earlier years that you really enjoyed. However, as time has progressed, you have been distracted from that "love" by a bigger issue that has caused that "love" to become less of a "love" and more a feeling of something lost. The person distracting you may be an aspect of yourself, perhaps trying to distance that "love" because it seems "juvenile" and "non-productive."

Some suggestions...try lucid dreaming. But, if you have really good control, project "two of yourselves" into the dream. What I mean is that the main "you" having the dream will focus on the car you are in and the person distracting you (how is he doing it? what is he saying)" Let that 'self' lose the apprehension of losing sight on the car in front. With the "second" 'you', try to get that body in the first car OR have it focus on the scenery along the road (what does she see? what type of road/signs/structures?). If you can do this, you may wake up feeling very upset and disturbed because you will feel that sense of loss as you awake, as opposed to feeling it in the dream.
