How to rid myself of negative energy
I had to spend the past few days with someone who passed on some serious negative energy to me. I feel absolutely dragged down by it and can't shake it.

Can anyone give me some suggestions to rid myself of this? This may sound strange, but I don't feel it's as simple as me being upset by this person, but this person's negativity actually 'infecting' me somehow.

1. I normally sage myself and then seal it with incense..
You can pick sage up at a variety of differenct stores (or out here in Ca. we can pick it in the moutains) it'd probably be faster to buy it. I light it and wisk the smoke all around my body. I then do the same thing with some incense. I normally say a chant or some kind of positive affirmation. I would then do a simple meditation where I sit, close my eyes, and visualize bright light all around me.

19. That's what I do
I relax and while I'm taking a shower imagine all the black energy leaving my body down the drain. Then I usually take a nice hot bath and imagine a blue and green energy around me. I know green is for positive but what does blue stand for? I just automatically do this.

3. Ok:
In addition to the smudging that was already suggested, you might:

*turn off the tv, the radio, and the computer for a couple of days; remove every possible source of everyday sorts of negativity.

* A day, or an evening, totally alone.

*Warm bath with dissolved sea salts; silence.

*While in the bath, meditate, visualizing light filling up the spaces and driving out negativity. Deliberately focus on the "bright" side of every situation, refusing entrance to negativity.

*Rinse in a quick cool shower after the bath.

*Then plan some recreation with people you like. Something involving laughter, dancing or music, energy, and fun.

4. Visualize yourself 'putting that negative energy' away.
When I meditate and have some particularly bad vibe, or bad person I want to get past, I visualise it/them, cup my hands over my mouth and exhale as deeply as possible into my hands.

Then when I have 'expelled' this 'badness' from my body, I say a blessing and 'set it aside' or open my hands and let it dissipate into the candlelight around me.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do ! :hi:

5. I want you to listen to yourself very carefully
This may sound strange, but I don't feel it's as simple as me being upset by this person, but this person's negativity actually 'infecting' me somehow.

MY concern, after reading that, is that you picked up a hitchiker, so to speak, a discarnate entity or other energetic "thing" or parasite. You have nothing to lose by assuming this is a possibility and trying to treat for it. It's possible to send it/them on their merry way on your own, or there are people who can help you if you need it. This is a free will universe and you are supposed to be able to insist that they leave you and your energy field.

Sooooo, get quiet, surround yourself with White Light of Protection; call in the reinforcements (your guides and as many ascended masters/deities/etc. as you like) and command (in a very firm way) any energies NOT YOUR OWN to leave you immediately and forever. If you end up thinking you've got a discarnate entity, you can suggest they go to the Light. Visualize your Spirit helpers escorting the whatever, seeing it get smaller and smaller.

Now check out your own energy field. Plug any holes (fill with Light).

If it's not something not your own, you may find some help in addition to the above suggestions from others on this thread:

The DU Spiritual Emergency Tool Kit
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=245&topic_id=4645

Additionally, if you're prone to pick up on others' energies (and this is true to some extent or another for ALL Water Signs of the Zodiac and all empaths and sensitives in general), please, please, please avail yourself of some psychic protection. There are books written on the subject, but in addition there are some Flower Essences you can use to help protect you. The ones that spring to mind include:

* Walnut - Bach or Healing Herb
* Angelica - various
* YARROW (a MUST HAVE), Flower Essence Services ("FES") and others
* St. John's Wort - FES
* Pennyroyal - FES (I think I'm remembering that this is one)
* Dutchman's Breeches - Pegasus
* Fly Agaric - Canadian Forest
* Shamanic Extraction - Angelic Essences
* Angelic Sword - Australian Bush
* Liriope - Earthfriends
and I'm sure hundreds of others

The first four to six are really more your everyday kind of psychic protection. The others are more special purpose. You can use any of these first 5 on an ad hoc basis -- that is, only as needed. Say you're going to go out among people including lots of people you don't know -- you can just have a dosage bottle handy and preferrably with you and take several doses before and during your experience and stop when it's over. Works beautifully.

Of course, you can also just surround yourself mentally with psychic protection, but I like the assurance of FEs -- I sometimes forget the visualization and even if I haven't, sometimes still let my guard down. The FEs will not just help prevent the type of experience you're having -- whether a hitchhiker or just absorbing that person's negativity -- it will help keep you from feeling drained when you've been out and about absorbing everyone else's eneergy (if that's a problem for you as it for so many people who might frequent this forum).

There's also a wonderful Essential Oil from Young Living Essential Oils called "White Angelica" which is a very beautiful oil combo that offers great psychic protection including after the fact. (Disclaimer: I don't have any current relationship with this company.) I've come home with my solar plexus in a torque and dabbed some of that on my upper chakras and pretty soon my 3rd chakra settles down (blessed relief).

12. No, no book recommendations
I have two or three and don't know what's out there now, maybe there are newer and better ones. I'd suggest finding a nice, metaphysical bookstore and see what grabs you.

Sorry.

7. Here's a Greek way
One way to capture and reevaluate or rid yourself of a negative situation is to request the help of Hephaestus and ask for his net. It is unbreakable, even by the gods. You visualize the issue or negativity and cast the net. It will hold anything! Then, you cast it away. If you are feeling infected, visualize yourself in the net.and pulling it down, over your body, thereby "catching" the negative vibes, then cast it aside.

Hephaestus is a kind god. I have found he is helpful, easy to thank, and enjoys the attention. He is often overlooked, but he is kind, loving, and his craftsmanship is unparalleled!

In one of my darkest hours, I did this (cast the net), and within a few hours, I felt like a new person. It also let me someone for what he really was!!!

Brightest Blessings!

20. Interesting
I've never heard of him. Can you give more information? When I think of this spirit I picture an older man with white hair and a gentle face and kind touch. One of those father-figures to everyone and I see him in a green robe.

8. This is coming from my own personal experience...
so it's possible I'm projecting onto you that which is mine.

One of the things I am learning now in my life is to reinforce my boundaries. I use ritual and affirmation to do this.

I've learned that as one who is sensitive to others and my surroundings, I tend to take in that which is not "mine" - whether it is emotion, energy, even, ideas. I used to frequently feel the need to disentangle mySelf from the Self of others and I still must watch mySelf that I don't take in that which I'm trying to "fix".

As many of us who post to this forum are teachers and healers, we tend to open ourselves to the energies which swirl around us in everyday life in order to do that which we do best; teach and heal. The "trick" is to open ourselves to these energies without taking them on as part of our own. Not only can this be damaging to ourSelf, it can also be damaging to the other person whose energy or lesson we have taken on. They have that energy in their life for their own life lessons; by taking it from them we deny them the opportunity to learn the lesson(s) they have chosen for themSelves.

I would suggest to you, and any others on this board with this tendency, to use either affirmation or ritual or whatever tool you have the most affinity for, to delineate yourSelf from the Selves of "others" with whom you come into contact.

I use visualization for this particular tendency in my own life. I visualize mySelf in a sphere of light, the interior color of which I adjust based on the particular situation, i.e., white - cleansing, healing, purple/lavender - spiritual or psychic growth, green - abundance, growth, prosperity, etc. - the exterior of the sphere I visualize as mirror-like finish to lovingly reflect back to the Universe that which is not "mine". It's important that the energy which is not mine be lovingly reflected back into the Universe and not back at a person or thing - the Universe knows what to do with it, a person or thing may not.

I visualize the boundaries of the sphere as mutable and permeable so that the energies which do enter the sphere, in order that I may work with those energies in my capacity as teacher/healer, are transformed based on the color-driven energy within the sphere while at the same time I visualize the boundaries of the sphere as being a barrier or repellent to the energies which are not mine or are not mine to work with. I trust the Universe and mySelf to know the difference between the energies. Trusting ones Self is a lesson in and of itself. :D

As we change into those beings which we are destined to become, learning as we do that we are all part of The All, connected, flowing one into the "other", we have the opportunity to learn to connect with "others" within/during our current reality which is anathema to spiritual blending, based as many of us in the western world are, in the paradigm of the individual.

I hope some of this may be of use to you.

9. Thank you all
I am still feeling overrun this morning, but I am now 'armed' and prepared to do some cleansing. Last night I breathed in lavendar air and released grey air, I envisioned a sort of mother-spirit helping me through.

What makes this situation tough is the negativity I picked up is from my real mother. I am currently trying to decide what to so with this toxic relationship (she is very toxic for me).

Thanks for your words and ideas.

13. Walnut flower essence by Bach or Healing Herbs
Scleranthus will help you make up your mind, and Mariposa Lily from Flower Essence Services (FES) is THE "mothering" essence. Walnut is for boundaries and breaking ties, making transitions away from people and things and an old life/way of being, etc.

You can make a combination essence of up to 5 or maybe even 7 essences at one time. All of these are available at many healthfood stores.

if you've never used FEs before, you should know that the effect is often subtle and gradual, with the changes and shifts happening much like life itself. I liken it to taking aspirin -- first you have a headache, then you take aspirin, then about 1/2 hour later you don't have a headache any more. Same with FEs only most of them take longer than 1/2 hour. You'll also need instructions on how to take them.

10. Try freeze framing--it's a technique I learned from a class
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 10:23 AM by linazelle
To freeze frame means to visualize images while conjuring up the positive feelings associated with those positive images, closing one's eyes, breathing deeply while doing so and letting the good feeling wash away doubt, negativity, etc. It's a process. First you invoke the imagery, eyes closed. Then you invoke the feelings, while breathing deeply and focusing on the area around your heart for centering. In focusing on these images, and taking a moment to breathe deeply while focusing, you slow down your heart rate and alter your perspective. It takes very little time, or you can do it as long as you want. The more you do it, the more benefits you get--including reducing your heart rate and even blood pressure.

I just came in to work with very little sleep, a ton of books, a briefcase, a meeting within a half hour of arriving, having to prepare for the meeting, etc. etc. At the elevator on the way to the meeting, I took a moment to freeze frame before meeting some important people.

I visualized the magnificent gardens at Mackinac Island for a few seconds while breathing deeply. (Sometimes I recall rubbing my dog's soft furry coat and the feelings associated with that. I've remembered rainbows, long walks...etc. The trainers cautioned using complicated images or scenes or images of people even if we love them because there are too many emotional variations with people which interfere with the process of focusing.

Before opening my eyes, I asked what I needed to do to make the meeting successful. I ventured on feeling a lot calmer and the meeting went well. They have expensive gadgetry that you can hook up to a computer and monitor your physical response during the process but it's not mandatory.

Try it. More info here: http://www.byronstock.com/home.html

11. All wonderful suggestions.
One thing I picked up back in '99 was a piece of black kyanite. A friend, thankfully, used it on me, quite literally saving my life. I've always tried to have a piece in my house since then.

As a metaphysical stone Kyanite aligns all chakras instantly and can be used to open chakras. It helps promote communication, encourages tranquillity and psychic awareness. Excellent for meditation and dream recall. A wonderful stone for the New Age, Kyanite is also excellent for working on the throat chakra and third eye. Never needs cleaning or clearing.

22. That sometimes does more harm than good.
Jon and I have been on the outs since a nasty bit he allowed his writers to throw at Stephen Colbert awhile back. It was supposed to be funny but ended up being grotesquely insensitive and well, wrong. I haven't been able to "trust" TDS not to return to a similarly offensive place since that time.
