I drive my 6th grade son to school every morning on my way to work. The playground was empty when we arrived, but it was quite cold this morning, so I figured the kids were inside. There was no snow or icy patches on our way to school. It seemed odd, but I dropped him off and continued to work. I had a big meeting with our director first thing, and I didn't want to be late. Despite that nagging in my gut.
I listened to the radio all the way to the office, 15 minutes or so. No word of school closings.
I get to the office and the director is on the phone. I wait with a colleague, chatting, waiting, until he mentions that the schools are closed! My poor son was probably still standing outside freezing, wondering what was going on. :scared:
Thankfully, another mother, who knows my son and apparently also didn't get the school closing word, saw him there and took him home with her. My husband was able to go get him. :pals:
The worst part of this is that my meeting with the director never even happened! He had to leave to take care of something more urgent.
Did I mention I work for a transportation agency?
Darn you, Mercury. :banghead:
