What makes your soul soar?
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 07:08 PM by I Have A Dream
The first thing that comes to mind for me is my favorite music. It takes me to a place that almost nothing else can!

:loveya:

(On edit: I'm laughing because, if this were in the Lounge, I can imagine the copycat threads: "What makes your soul sore?", "What makes your soul sour?", "What makes your sole sore?", etc. :D)

1. Music, nature, space exploration, beauty of any sort.
Consonance. Love. Joy.

Great question!

2. Lately?.......
Music, definitely, nature, sunsets at the beach, walks and fun with my precious dog, eveinings of a simple meal and watching a movie DVD with great friends or my children, taking a drive through my city....marvelling at my grown up kids = how on earth did my husband and I pull THAT off without screwing them up? :silly:

Music, nature, pets and loved ones - yep, these are some of the things in my life which give me intense joy and sometimes even pure bliss.

3. I probably need to go to the lounge!
But since I am not there, it is the unexpected pleasures that pop up out of nowhere that I love. It could be anything...........it is the "oh my gosh" moment, like the time I looked out the window of the car and saw the eagle. I also like to discover things--and yes, discover is the correct word, not learn. I like to peel back layers and see what is inside. This could be physical, psychological, or any type of mystery. It makes my soul soar to discover something different about the world, or different about myself.

But, gosh, I absolutely love music, too. I am not particularly knowledgeable about any particular genre, but I love 'em all. And I love "certain" musical performances. It has to do with connecting with an audience. I remember some second tier bands that I have seen that had absolutely fabulous performances because the audience and they were one. Those moments, and other artistic performances similar to that, are moments to cherish.

And, I love it when my whole nuclear family is together, playing silly games and drinking wine and just having a good old time.

Also, I love to hike, either in a different city or a countryside, and I love to figure out where I am in the landscape physically. I feel really grounded them. But that is because I have "discovered" something--it may not be anything new to anyone else, but it is new to me. I love the water, and particularly being in water, and being weightless. It is a feeling that is a sort of symbol of freedom.

Good question!! I'm sure there is much more stuff. Those are off the top of my head.

4. adrenalin
last summer I went white water rafting for the first time in my life, and I never would have believed I would love it so much. I'm no kid, understand? I think, although my fitness has been sporadic, I have always been happier when I've been exercising regularly. But the thing about that adrenalin rush, nothing can top that. I get it in my work, in a non-physical way, but white water rafting....it's like sex.
:party:
Okay, I guess that makes my soul soar too! Although not lately. No kid am I, Yoda. Better book another white water trip, eh?

6. last night at drum and dance
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 11:52 PM by Crab Nebula
seeing a woman whose style is appealing and compatible;
dancing with her;
seeing her smile at me and myself smiling back;
sharing a huge warm hug;
thanking the universe for having met, wishing her well, and hoping to meet again;

the slow steadiness with which I've been emerging from my shell.

Then having band practice today after sharing in all of the energy from last night was phenomenal.

There's more, of course, but those are foremost in my mind.

oh yea, and stuff like this:

Omnia performing their song "Morrigan"

I'd say when I'm in the zone with my writing, or when I'm really close to my kid or when I'm in nature, or dancing (aka slinking) , or during those rare and treasured occasions of intimacy, or when I'm engulfed with the sense that I can help make this world a slightly better place. Not necessarily in that order. lol

11. Cycling.
I went on a long ride 5 hr today. Almost 63 miles. My first long ride of the season. I'm back in training again for a century in four weeks. For me, being out on my bike, out in nature, moving fast by my own power, using my body, feeling my strength as I push up a steep hill...I was feeling positively BLISSFUL and so grateful just to be alive and enjoying the fantastic day. I'm at one with my body, god and the universe when I'm out on my bike on a gorgeous ride.

THAT's what makes my soul soar.

Mind. Body. Spirit. It's all connected. :D

12. Great post!!!! And how in-sync! I was with friends today and we were
talking about this exact thing and the fact that if we do what makes our soul's soar more often we'll be vibing higher (we're into Abraham and we had just seen a great DVD about being in a place of passion and how it's all part of attracting and allowing). Some of the things that came up for us were:
well....incredible conversations
Great Art- Music, paintings, movies
Great Sex
Being in love
A beautiful sunset (like the one we saw today in Santa Monica)
Ojai - where a group of us went last week to meditate - it's an incredible enery vortex about 1 1/2 hours North East of L.A.
Hiking
Jogging
and much, much more

13. when good people do good things
When I see people doing the right thing, the good thing--even if it makes their own life more difficult. When I see people up against tremendous odds but hanging in there and making the morally and ethically correct choice. This moves me like nothing else, and especially when more good spirals out of their action.

16. Music for me too.
There are some other things like hiking in the mountains and smelling the pine trees, etc. But music can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere so that's where I turn when I need to feed my soul. One of my absolute favorites is in the thread from a few weeks ago asking about favorite songs.

18. My favorite sound is the sound of the wind in the trees -- especially pine trees.
It takes me somewhere else. :)
