Checking in re: Ike
Hi everyone,

I'm in SW Houston (Sugar land to be exact.) Just wind at the moment (tropical storm speeds)and a teeny bit of rain, but expecting hurricane-force winds within the next few hours.

I'm as prepared as can be and fortunately do not live in a low-lying area, so no need to evacuate. Waiting for landfall to see if we get the dirty side or not. Thankfully, at least at this point, it looks like not. :)

My Internet connection is sooooo slow, it's worse than dial-up, so I'm going to sign off, get the kiddo to bed and watch a funny movie before I try to get some sleep.

One cat is begging to go outside, the other is bathing, so I'm not too worried. :)

To all my neighbors, stay high and dry and if I have power, I'll check in tomorrow.

4. Checking back in.
Power just came on (Oh! thank you, thank you, thank you.)

I've been without power since the storm hit Saturday morning. Ike was fairly scary. I'm shocked it was only a Cat 2. Seemed much more powerful.

My house does have some damage, but it's livable. I lost my favorite print and all the food in my fridge, but all is well. I'm off to stand in line at the grocery store.

I hope everyone here who lives in Houston Metro is okay.

P.S. I didn't think of Caribou Barbie once. That was nice. :)

I'm sorry that you had some damage, but I know that you're counting your blessings right now.

9. Sometimes I feel that my second home is in Houston
Even now, my niece is there. A daughter was there in college, and some of my husband's family is there. Take care. Part of my heart is in Houston with you.... Sugarland, too.

I can relate to your trials, having lived through "Hurricane Elvis."

My daughter got married ten days after Hurricane Elvis and the power came on at our house while we were at the reception. So, kudos to Houston for getting your power back on.
