The Sabian symbology of Nov. 4

Tensions are building as we near Nov. 4... the economic and foreign variety in particular. So I thought it might be interesting to look at some of the Sabian Symbols leading up to and including the election.

Astrologically remember we have the exact opposition of transiting Saturn (at 18+ Virgo) opposing a retrograde transiting Uranus (at 18+ Pisces) on election day. As I read the Sabian symbols of these degrees I remembered talking about the 18+ degree Saturn position in Virgo before. It was the degree of the Sept. 11, 2007 solar eclipse. Does this sound familiar?

A SWIMMING RACE - The stimulation that comes from a group effort toward a spiritual goal.

When man has become an expert swimmer he has symbolically learned how to operate in a new element. This element, water, represents the ever-flowing stream of psychic energy, and in a sense at least the "astral" world. In a still deeper sense man is now able, mystically speaking, to cross the river and reach "the other shore" - or to swim back toward the source. Whether or not the symbol should suggest the competitive spirit at work is questionable. At the biological level a host of spermatozoa are swimming toward the ovum, and each presses on toward the goal, the act of impregnation. A seeker after spiritual rebirth actually does not strive alone. It is Man who, acting through the most advanced individuals of the race, is taking a step toward rebirth, or toward a new mutation. The personal ego-centered ambition to succeed and to be 'first' is indeed a sign of expectable spiritual failure. (the ego cannot swim in this element).

We are confronted with a problem of interpretation. Is not ambition a subtle form of deviation under the pressure of ancient karma, and the competitive spirit so valued by our civilization a sign of failure to understand the deeper reality of existence? What is needed is EMULATION, not competition.

This message can be read on many levels. Of course on a mundane level there is a collective competition inherent in our electoral system and many get caught up in the winning part as though
it were a sporting event. In fact even the politicos have suggested a it to be like a football game.
The need to win can actually stop the flow of the collective stream. Rather it might be best to emulate the stream rather than focus on the goal. (at least that's how I interpret that symbol).

I'm trying to recall what events (personal and collective) were going on Sept. 11 of 2007. Does anyone recall? Just curious what the connection between that date and the Nov. 4 election date
might be. And remember that Saturn represents, among other things, the collective consensus of reality. And perhaps it will be challenged and broken down by Uranian energies and we will need
to re-examine this collective 'race'...what it means, how we participate, etc.





And transiting Uranus will take up the opposite sign position in Pisces, whose Sabian symbol is:

A MASTER INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLE - The transfer of power and knowledge which keeps the original spiritual and creative impulse of the cycle active and undeviated.

The Hindu ideal of the sacred relationship between guru and chela (disciple) has of late become familiar to a vast number of young and not-so-young people. The doctrine of "the Apostolic succession" in the Roman Catholic Church has a similar significance. The Power and archetypal knowledge released "in the beginning" of any cycle (or creation) must be perpetuated until the very Last Day = the Omega state of which Teilhard de Chardin glowingly speaks. The Power of the 'self' of the cyclic manifestation, the unchanging Tone (AUM) of all existence within this cycle. It can be transmitted from master to disciple at the latter's "Initiation". It must be so transmitted for when the line of transmission is discontinued, the cyclic process begins to collapse in futility and spiritual darkness.

This gives a clue to the supreme technique necessary for the continuation of all manifestations of power and spiritual understanding. The transmission is from person to person, it follows a general, unchanging pattern, yet it operates in terms of particular and individual circumstances. INVESTITURE.

So this symbol is also carrying the Uranian/Piscean energies as it confronts Saturn/Virgo on Nov. 4.
Certainly we will be attempting "a transfer of power" on that day so as to keep the cycle going through continuity of a pattern. I suppose one might examine this current cycle and wonder how mundane events like a presidential race fit into this more esoteric message. While on the one hand I see us nearing the end of a very long cycle in our human history, I wonder whether it should collapse (failure) or whether it should continue (spiritual continuity). Or would a Uranian collapse in the mundane sense of old patterns, structures and values, etc. (rather than in the spiritual sense) actually serve to remove what has become an obstacle to spiritual evolution?
There is much to contemplate. We want our guy to 'win' but are we in the astral flow or in our
egos? What elements must be maintained for continuity (both mundane and spiritual) and which
are obstacles that must come down?

And also on Nov. 4, transiting Jupiter in Capricorn (our institutions and what we've built) forms a
friendly relationship to the two opposing planets. Jupiter in Capricorn has a Jupiter/Saturn feel to
it which is controlled, orderly, lawful growth and expansion. It acts as a mediator between these two. And its Sabian symbol is:

THE UNION JACK FLAG FLIES FROM A BRITISH WARSHIP - The protection afforded to individuals and groups by powerful institutions in charge of maintaining order.

This symbol reflects conditions prevailing in the past when Great Britain's fleet was policing the seas under the international principle of the freedom of the seas. Times have changed, but the concept remains valid. Power is required to maintain social order and relatively peaceful interpersonal as well as international relationships. Alas, this power can easily be misused under the pretext of preserving "law and order". Justice and compassion must balance social power, and especially the power of privileged groups. Where this symbol appears, the need for protection may be in evidence - or it may be a warning against using power for selfish advantage.

It brings to us a realization of the ambivalence Political Power, its value and its dangers.

I think this symbol is not only self explanatory, but ties in so well with the planetary energy of Jupiter in Capricorn which carry it. So I'm assuming, for better or worse, that there will be some kind of 'mediation' or 'intervention' on Nov. 4.

I thought is also might be interesting to look at the degrees Saturn was in just prior to the big
Nov. event that might give some clues as to what element of the collective consensus was being stirred up prior to its confrontation with Uranus Nov. 4. About mid-October Saturn will be at 16 degrees of Virgo. The Sabian symbol for that degree is:

A VOLCANIC ERUPTION - The explosive energy of long-repressed contents of the subconscious.

We are dealing here with the dramatic release of energies which have been kept in check by the outer shell of the ego-controlled consciousness. It may be a spectacular catharsis, but it often takes paths of destruction. Yet unless some form of purification by fire is experienced, the inner pressure of the karmic past or of more recent frustrations would shake up perhaps even more destructively the very foundation of the personality.

The subjective eruption of repressed memories and primitive cravings. Everything must be released from the psyche seeking to attain the transfigured state. The soul must become empty, the mind translucent. EXPLOSION.

Again pretty self explanatory. While we might experience an actual eruption event, it would still
reflect a deeper disturbance that requires release. Tensions and anger are building in this country around a number of issues as an ending and potential new beginning draw closer together. The collective psyche has, essentially, reached a tipping point just as magma below the surface must out.


Then Saturn moves to the next degree just prior to the election whose symbol is:

A OUIJA BOARD - The ability to contact deeper recesses of the unconscious psyche and sensitivities
to psychic intimations and omens.

The ouija board is to be considered here a modern device similar to many ancient instruments used for divination and prophecy. Certain states of threshold consciousness are stimulated by such a use, and what the experience produced may very greatly in quality and in origin. The release of unconscious material has lost the explosive force pictorialized in the preceding symbol, yet at this stage there is still no conscious and willful control over what reaches the ego-consciousness.

It is at best a stage of transition which stresses a passive openness to the unknown. The glamor of it may subtly pervert the mind of the aspirant; but in some cases this can be the first manifestation of INNER GUIDANCE. The difficulty is to correctly evaluate what or who does the guiding.

This reminds me a little of how people responded to the attack on 9/11. At some level we understood
the symbolism of this event we were witnessing (regardless of who did it). I remember discussions here about the "the tower of Babel" and the meaning of the Tower card of the tarot deck, among other associations. Recognizing and understanding omens, like learning to understand one's dreams, is a natural response and a good instinct that provides signposts at difficult junctures and sometimes prepares us ahead of an event.

As our familiar reality breaks down and we are exposed to shocks and to those who exploit our insecurities and send a barrage of lies and misinformation, etc. our way, we have had to learn to contact more deeply than ever our inner guidance system. For many that's a new experience that they haven't fully developed or learned to trust. What psychic responses are generated by our ego and which are coming from a purer source? In our openness we also might become vulnerable to outside influences that would like to shape our perceptions and guide our steps.

For me this 'self listening' can be distinguished by developing one's ear, as for music, to tell when something 'rings true' like a pure note, and when it is 'off' somehow.
But it is a function we must develop as it will become more and more important for maneuvering these
uncharted waters.

Dane Rudhyar's book on these channeled symbols of the astrological degrees as events unfold.

One of my housemate just dug out his copy of this book to do a reading for the Nov 4.
It will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

a flash came into my head while reading, about how important affirmations will be. "Spiritual goal", "transfer of power", "explosive energy of long-repressed contents of the subconscious". I'm thinking of starting threads in GD that say "President Obama" without identifying the thread as a spiritual practice. Our thinking will overcome their fraud.

Also, the Sun will start the day in the 13th degree of Scorpio, and be in the 14th by the end of the day.

I threw the I-ching on the Nov.4 election a couple of days ago and got hexagram 39 OBSTACLE
(change line 2) which transformed it into 48 THE WELL.

I know the general meaning of the various numbered hexagrams pretty well now having studied
them for many years. Particularly R.L. Wing's interprestation from his book, The I Ching Workbook. So I made a mental and written note of the toss but didn't stop to read it indepth at the time.

Well, this morning I asked the same question about Nov. 4 and this rarely happens, but I got the very same hexagram 39 AND change line which transformed into 48! How's that for a message!

I don't have time right now to search the web to see if R.L. Wing's interpretations are available online, but if you have the book read it...particularly the parts about the social/political, and power issues. Very very interesting.

And another thing I noticed was that hexagram 39 speaks metaphorically about something that is very similar to what the Sabian symbol for the Nov. 4 position of Saturn/Virgo stated in my OP (The Swimming Race). Both suggest emulating water as a means of dealing with obstacles.

Anyway, just one of those sychronistic things...
