Strange Dream
Dreamt about one of my former college profs and his wife (who I knew as a student in some of my other classes)- both very straight laced wierd but not obnoxious fundies. What little contact we have had since I completed school has been both minimal and infrequent - usually something like a "chance" encounter at a store or resturant. We have had no contact at all in well over a decade.

I dreamt I purchased the prof and his wife a large luxurious lavishly furnished home. I don't know how I financed that purchase - or what motivated it - but I was embarrased by the expenditure and would not let anyone know how much I spent. Then sometime later I showed up at their door - unannounced, unexpected and quite intoxicated. Have no idea why I was there, what I wanted or why I was so drunk. I was welcomed and permitted into the house where I proceeded to make myself very much at home in what appeared to be a music, media and entertainment room. I was mostly left alone to entertain myself - and I while I seemed to linger for quite an extended period of time I remained very intoxicated and did not sober up. Prof and his wife did come and go from time to time and tried to engage me in conversation. Mostly they seemed concerned because I was so intoxicated. I was content to be there and not particularly anxious to leave - and without any apparent motive for my visit. I don't remember ever sobering up or leaving their home in my dream.

I swear I was stone cold sober when I had this dream. Initially I dismissed it as just a silly little dream. But the memory of many of its details has lingered, something somewhat unusual for me. I typically remember dreams on waking - but quickly forget them and their details. Which makes me wonder why the details of this dream have lingered - and whether I am to take some meaning frm it.

Thoughts?

1. First impressions...

You, the liberal, have given your (fundie) friends the gift of wealth and comfort by electing Obama. This is a gift you have bestowed on the whole country, including the fundies, although they don't know it (and probably expect the opposite). You're rightly intoxicated with the joy of the country, and therefore all of humanity, choosing the correct path of light to the future and not remaining stagnant in the darkness of the same old, same old, and you're relaxing in the comfort of what you've "bought".

On edit: I see NO problem with this.

3. here is my attempt ....
feel free to ignore if nothing resonates

You have a gift (probably skills & talents) hidden away that you grant (feel you can let out) only to those who society or those you perceive as having power deem worthy instead of lavishing them on yourself. You can only sneak in to enjoy your gifts (or they leak out) when uninhibited. The bit of you holding you back *knows* you really own those gifts so doesn't even try to kick you out. So do you have an ability that you don't feel worthy of and so have neglected to develop? was there authority figures in your life that said only the straight-laced types can/will/should succede and enjoy good things in life that may have been absobred as unspoken rules? If so this may be a good time to call forth that bit of your psyche for a chat about what you what rules you do want in your life and is this keeping you back from being all you can be?

4. Interesting
There may be something to that - in a couple of different ways.

First. My mother and grandfather were very conventional and had traditional career expectations for me. I've been spending a lot of time lately learning art skills and hoping to someday be able to open my own studio.

Second. A couple of weeks ago I was cleaning up the computer hard drive and came across an outline for a book that I have threatened to write for years. Sort of a fundamentalist attack on fundamentalist politicking. I read through that outline and it still resonated with me. I really wanted to get back to work on it - and then I remembered all the reasons I talked myself out of doing so earlier. I'd still love to write the book - but I consider the effort something between a complete waste of time and a death wish (well maybe not quite that bad). In a lot of ways your take on my strange dream resonates with this situation. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn......

Thanks for your insight.
