I just had one of my house dreams
I used to have house dreams all the time, but I haven't had one in a long time now, ages. I took a nap this afternoon, though, and there it was.

In real life my own house always seems to small and cut up. I have fantasies of redoing the whole first floor, ala HGTV network, but alas no money for that.

In the dream, it was as if I had suddenly perceived my house in way I never had before, and saw how the transformation could be accomplished fairly easily. Half of it would be living/playing room and the other half kitchen, bright and sunny and open.

My husband, son, and the neighborhood kids were playing in the snow (as if!) and I went out to see them. There was a guy out there I knew I had met before, but I couldn't think where. He was dancing with me, lifting me right off the ground! My husband had made this incredible snow fort, like a little house itself. The snow was great, huge piles, so I went back in to get this snow brickmaker we have. I went in through this outdoor alcove, and thought to myself that we could easily use it as an outdoor dining area in the summer.

Of course I could not find the brickmaker in the closet (I can never find anything in my house in real life). But I did find a whole section of the house I had never seen before. A baby's room, a playroom, another bathroom...I remember thinking what a sick place to keep a baby, like a dungeon.

I was stunned to think we had all this space we'd never even used, never even painted. At that point, even asleep, I realized it was a dream. Shortly after that I woke up for real.

FYI: awake now, I went to find the brickmaker. It's not in the closet where it used to be. Alas, I think we gave it to Goodwill.

1. Here's my attempt at interpretation
I feel as though the house represents the totality of your conscious and unconscious mind. Normally you occupy only a small area of it. Most of us use only a small amount of our brain and our potential power.

This dream could mean that you have become aware of a much greater personal potential, and entire areas of your mind that were previously unknown and unused. Maybe you can start exploring and finding wonderful new things.

2. I'm not sure what a "house dream" is
but I've noticed that when I dream, I'm never in my own house. In fact I'm usually in a big, winchester-style house, with stairways that go nowhere and lots of hidden rooms and sub rooms. Not sure what to make of that.

3. My attempt at interpretation
please feel free to ignore if nothing resonates.

The hidden baby rooms could indicated a neglected inner part of you that you previously were unaware of, possibly a quality that was shamed and shunned when you displayed it as a child and there after it was repressed. Running and playing, dancing for no reason with or without music - have your feet been twitchy to and longing to dance a jig? Or is some other 'childish' urge percolating up from your subconscious where this gift of child-like unselfconcious enthusiasm has been relegated to the dark enclosed dungeon of the shadow?

4. I love these kinds of dreams
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 09:51 AM by teenagebambam
I'm usually in either my childhood home or my grandmother's house, and I'll find a walled-up or long-unused room, and think "Hey! I remember this room from when I was very VERY young, but forgot all about it!"

5. I've had these dreams, too
I had several dreams in one night. In one, I had changed ownership of homes five times in my life, instead of three. Okay, the other two were pretty cool. Why had I moved? I also had three swimming pools in one of the homes, and an indoor pool that I never used.

Then, in the current home, I just kind of went out the back and found two more rooms that I had not known were there.

This was one of those dreams that I kept thinking might be true for about ten minutes after I woke up.

I take it to mean that I might need more diversity in my life. I have a sort of general issue with wanting stability in my life vs. needing change. That is one of my conflicts, along with needing lots of space/privacy vs. needing social interaction. These are just kind of balancing acts, and some of my dreams reflect those themes.
