I have a story to share. about wind spirits.
Once, many many..way to dang many moons ago, I was a little girl of around 4 and my wicked step-father had locked me out of the house while he was molesting my older sister. (that is another story which ended with me and my sisters throwing his butt in jail but I digress)
I had never been outside alone before and I was frightened so I sat very still on the front steps and watched the big world with very big eyes I am sure.
I suddenly had a jolt of fear because I saw the very large hedge that surrounded the front of our yard, moving and shaking.
As I was deathly afraid of large dogs (having been hauled around by one once by my leg) I sat up stiff and straight and was afraid to utter a peep for fear the dog would hear me and come out..and I watched the movement intently.
I suddenly realized it was a little wind and it was playing..it was running up and down the hedge, first on one side and then the other. I "knew" it was a kid like me so I asked it if it wanted to play hide and go seek.
As soon as I spoke to it, it got very still and I felt it was startled and didn't know what hide and go seek was..
So I jumped off the steps and ran into the hedge and peeked out at the wind spirit.
I could see it in the pine tree watching me because no matter where it was..the leaves would move a little) and then I went to the other side and jumped out shouting "Boo!", then I leaped back inside the hedge and the game was on.
We had a wonderful afternoon playing in the hedge until I got into a fight with my new friend.
The wind spirit discovered it could make me gasp for air if it blew right into my face and that it made me upset. It thought it was very funny and kept on doing that to me, harder and harder.
Finally I got really mad and sneaked out the back side of the hedtge and ran to the hollyhock bushes beside the front porch and hide there until my mom came home.
She was very upset and angry to find me locked outside and didn't pay any attention to me trying to tell her that the wind spirit was stealing my breath.
She went on to go fight with my step dad and I stood on the back of the couch and looked out the window at the wind spirit..back up in the pine tree waiting for me to come back out and I stuck my tongue out at it..and forgot about it.
I forgot about it until the next morning when my mom wanted to go to town and she dragged me out with her.
As soon as we got out the door..the little wind spirit swooped down on me with a lot of glee and was pushing itself into my face and stealing my breath.
My mother's hair was not even messed up but I was gasping for air as she hauled me along by my arm.
I finally was able to get my head inside the collar of my jacket and buttoned the top button so I could peek out and it couldn't steal my breath.
It pushed on me for a while and then gave up in disgust and left.
I was happy to have discovered a way to foil that mean little wind spirit. I never played with it again.
I now have a wind spirit that lives in one of my neighbors trees. She comes down to say good morning and to play a song on my wind chimes when I go out for my morning tea into my garden.
Watch for a wind spirit. They are easy to spot because if you pay attention you will see all the trees and leaves are still..except one spot where the wind spirit is.
This little wind spirit and I are good friends and she never tries to steal my breath. heehee ;)

1. I'm so sorry that this happened to your sister, winyanstaz.
:(

The rest of the story is absolutely charming. I'm going to be on the lookout for wind spirits now. I always try to see elementals, but I've not yet been successful. I think that I'm approaching it too rationally.

I'm glad that you now have a sweet & gentle wind spirit as a friend. I think sometimes it's easy for elementals to forget that we humans are as fragile as we are. :)

2. Saw my first Fairy a few evenings ago
Hovering around my ceiling fan. We both just froze when he realized I saw him, then we burst out laughing. It was delightful.

4. That is a wonderful story :)
I thought I saw one once but all I really saw for sure was a bubble of cobalt blue light with something in it..jumping from a hanging plant basket and bouncing off under my end table.
I spent days crawling around looking for it.
Many years later, one of my grandchildren when she was around five saw "a little fairy man" in the wild place by the lower garden and spent a few days searching for him too.
I will share a story about a lucid dream about some earth elementals sometime..it was very interesting. Long...but interesting ;)

8. Oh, you're so lucky, Kookaburra!
How wonderful!

Do you have any idea why you were able to see him?

11. Not sure, but
I had been terribly sick most of last winter and early spring with chronic bronchitis, and had been requesting healing from my angels and fairies, which they happily provided. Left the usual thank you goodies out for them, but asked if I could thank them in person. Never really thought of it after that -- just figured the answer was no. Then when I finally did see one of them, I was so surprised that I forgot to thank him. Sure hope he understood and accepted the joy of the moment as thanks.

Would love to see him or any of them again, but so far it hasn't happened.

3. Thank you, it happened to two of my sisters actually,
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 05:01 PM by winyanstaz
My other little sister and I were abused and molested but I was a real screamer as a little kid so he stayed away from me and I was always trying to defend her and the other children as well and as best I could as a child...usually by making suck a ruckus he would back off.
When I got older..I would either run or fight back or my dog (who would defend us children) would come in or somehow something always happened to save me.
I was fortunate in that regard although I got more than my share of beatings.
It took my three sisters and myself years to be able to stand up all together and speak out and I am ever so very proud of them for doing so.
They all work hard in the professions as well as privatly now to help abused children and adults that have needs as well. I believe they have made the world a better place in many ways.
It all taught me a lot about the world and life however and I believe we all turned out fine in the end, but not until we stood up and empowered ourselves and put a stop to the monster.
He will be on parole the rest of his life and we are here to see he never is allowed around any children ever again.

9. I'm so glad that you and your sisters were able to find a way...
to stand up to him and come out of the experience whole and with unbroken spirits. Kudos to you for refusing to sweep it under the rug as so many families do. Thank you for making sure that it doesn't happen to any other children.

Finally, thank goodness that you had your voice (and that you refused to allow it to be beaten out of you) and that your dog was there to take care of you; what a wonderful friend he/she was to you.

Again, I'm so sorry that the women of your family had to suffer so... :(

5. Oh, I do so love the wind!
It's especially fun on July 4th when folks are setting off fireworks; if there's light wind, it takes the smoke and whorls it wonderfully. Glee!

6. I do too!
One of my favorite sounds is when the wind rustles the trees -- especially pine trees. I swear that that sound heals my soul. Sigh... :)

10. Wind spirits....
what a great topic....

I, too, see them all the time when I am walking and driving in my neighborhood.
I live in a very rural area, lined with trees and dense shrubs.
There are many times when just up ahead of me, a small area of the foliage will be swaying
as if in a breeze, but there is no movement either above or below it.
I'll have to be sure and acknowledge the spirit from now on.

13. Thank you so much for sharing this
I didn't know to look where there is stillness for the wind spirit. I watch them play all the time. It's one of the things I really notice. That and plants "sparkling" at me to say hello:)

14. Thank you for posting this
I am enjoying all your stories, Win. Please keep them coming! :hi:

Sending light "retroactively" to the young you and the young versions of your sisters. I am so glad things turned out all right for all of you.

I do so love wind spirits. When I was in my coven, I was always East in our circles, as air magic is strong in me. I remember once we were doing a wedding outdoors--it was SO HOT. My elder asked me to rustle up a breeze--the wind spirits were more than happy to oblige! And then they sent a cloud in the shape of a dragon to bless the ceremony. ROFL they know how make a statement, that's for sure!
