New crop circles, y'all! (warning to dialuppers: pic heavy)
All from England. Unfortunately the comments on many of them are still doing the "gloom and doom" thing, this time predicting a killer comet. My instinct says to take those speculative interpretations with a grain of salt (okay, more accurately my instinct says "Oh horseshit--shaddap, ya Chicken Littles!") So go with your gut instead and see what it tells you about these lovely formations. :hi:

All images from Crop Circle Connector. (http://www.cropcircleconnector.com)

July 9--a twofer (cute key which also looks like Kokopelli) Pyramid is Platonic solid, big in 7s and 3s:

July 10--visit the comments page for an account of a visitor who was shot at by someone in camouflage!

July 11--possibly a sunspot message:

July 13--there's a simple one with bad photos. Go here if you want to see it: http://www.cropcircleconnector.com/2009/ChilcombDown/ChilcombDown2009.html

July 14--a total mind phk--LOOK at the interwoven stalks!

July 14--as a fan of triskelions, I love this one:

July 14--compass rose:

1. Totally AWESOME !!!
I couldn't find the comments you referred to. What did I do wrong? I saw some things referring to Rel./Politics, talking about JFK assassination, and building 7 and consp. theories. Do I have to log in or something?

2. Oh--sorry--I should have provided links
The comments are linked from each circle. Just between you, me, and the lamppost, this site is wonderful, content-wise, but their layout--which hasn't changed in something like a decade--truly blows--so it's easier to add the links here than direct you on how to find them!

5. I wish I could go walk around the woven one!
That must be just awe-inspiring! Gee, it's just incredible what a couple of guys can do with a couple of boards and ropes-overnight...

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

7. Thank you!
After I read all of these, and picked my jaw up off the ground, I realized just how awesome these are. There is so much to be revealed as the veil is lifted..........I can't begin to imagine what all of these mean, but I do know in my "gut" these were not man made. Can't wait to meet the intelligence that did!!! (if those idiots on the ground with guns don't kill them and us all first!!)

3. Wow! And Wow again! Those two guys have really been busy
haven't they. I guess it took them all night to do the woven one!

Seriously, the circles are breathtaking, and the discussion at the crop circle site is mindboggling.

4. ROFL! Not to mention
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 06:09 PM by MorningGlow
how many of them were done on July 14. Long night for those guys on the 13th, I must say!

I think the pyramid is my favorite (even though I love triskelions, the drama of the pyramid Platonic solid is impressive, so it's got the edge). And the woven one is just incredible.

10. Hey, Orrex, serious question...
In reference to the woven one, how would a skeptic explain that being done? It looks so complex...

I'd appreciate your giving us the skeptic's take on this particular one because, as soon as I saw it, I immediately wondered how it would be explained by those who believe that humanity created all of the crop circles that we see.

Thanks for your take. :hi:

11. An entirely fair question!
I'd like to make two points before answering, though:

1. I'm reluctant to engage in debunking here in this Group, because that would feel like I'm dissing the Group's hospitality.

2. Nevertheless, it's curious that circles have become more complex as the years have gone by, rather than starting out with a high degree of complexity. This suggests to me a sort of competitive spirit among hoaxers around the world, steadily increasing in difficulty over time.

3. Some of the more esoteric studies about crop circles are, I confess, entirely beyond me. I have no idea what magnetic signatures or antimony deposits might mean one way or the other, so I can't comment on these aspects of the phenomenon.

Regarding the woven stalks, if one accepts that it's possible to create a generic circle with a rope-and-board device, isn't it also possible to flatten opposing lines of crops in sequence, analogous to how you'd braid a rope or weave a pie crust? From this image:

I'd say that the width of an individual weft (or is it warp?) is about the expected size of the basic board used by admitted hoaxers.

Incidentally, who's reporting the dates of these circles? That is, do we have independent confirmation that they were made in a single night? Even so, it seems to me that a single person could make a circle about half the size of a football field in about an hour, so if a team of a dozen hoaxers is on the case, it might easily take less than 20 minutes. I note, for example, that the lines intersecting the "woven" circle would provide excellent access points for someone seeking to create a circle.

As I mentioned, I don't want to cause any fights here, so readers are welcome to call BS on my response.

12. I appreciate your caution, and I was a little concerned about asking the question.
However, I knew that you'd attempt to answer my question in a civil manner while in this group. The woven part is something new to me, and I wondered what a skeptic's take on it would be.

Personally, I'd like to see a complicated crop circle while it's being created by humans. I do think that some crop circles are made by humans; I just don't necessarily believe that they're all made by humans. To see a complicated circle made by a skilled group of crop-circle hoaxers would give me a better understanding as to what is possible by them.

Thank you for your "take" on this. I'll now turn the discussion back to the appreciation of the beauty of these creations. :)

13. I agree--watching people create a complicated one would be very cool
Sort of like watching the painting of a large mural or other big artwork!

16. I noticed, but since I like you...
I let it slide. ;)

Honestly, I've done that myself more times than I can count. (I also understand your need to make it clear here that you can actually count. Sometimes I'll notice that I've misspelled something, and I can't resist making it clear that I do actually know how to spell that word and use it correctly in a sentence. :silly:)

14. On reporting
Hi, Orrex! :hi:

AFAIK, Crop Circle Connector is the main "go to" site for crop circle reports (although there are plenty of other sites, obviously) that collects data from several organizations who monitor appearances of crop circles. It's a big network of investigators, some who do this full time, others who do this as a hobby, that has gotten monitoring crop circle appearances down to a "science" (LOL just for you ;) )--especially in the UK. So if there's a field with nuthin', and then the field has sumpthin' at dawn (or even sooner), this network of investigators is going to hear about it and get the word out. Some farmers have tried to prevent the word getting out about a formation in one of their fields because they don't want lookie-loos trampling their crops, but they always fail--mainly because the formations are too damned big to hide (and, apparently, judging by the many aerial shots, the investigators have access to helicopters).

I have been surfing a bit, trying to find specific documentation as to how this network of investigators works--I'll keep you posted when I find something with good detail.

One last thing: Never mind the speed at which crop circles are formed--don't forget that man-made circles break the crops and "genuine" ones don't. I'd like to hear more about the state of the crops in the woven formation. If those stalks aren't broken, we definitely have something to think about--!
