Posting outside of prayer thread, sorry need immediate attention
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 10:36 PM by rumpel
Please send healing light to our Newfie. I was walking him late this afternoon, and as usual trying to get some petting out of people lunged at the person who was asking about him, and as usual I pulled back, and something happened - he yelped in pain for at least 60 seconds - I had no idea where - he had a hard time walking but no limp - as he rested, I massaged, and checked - I somehow know I have heeling hands, but don't know how to apply. (Dogs come to me when in pain) it is in his neck. I massaged, called my friend and holistic vet, who later treated him and also felt it is his neck, without me commenting, over the phone - he said it is his 2nd and 3rd, but he is still in pain. He is such a sweet boy to anyone and everyone - every time he tries to move some way - he winces in pain -

Official Name Yoda from Shamuland - aka Mozu

Thank you my friends

3. try this
on his fifth (throat) chakra, with your open hand above it, do a slow "unscrew" motion with your hand, with the intent to remove negative energy. Do this for about 45 seconds. Then, put healing energy back in with a "screw" motion on his throat chakra, for at least one and a half minutes.

I hope it will help!!

6. I was taught something similar
to pull out the blocked/harmful energy with a pulling motion like a magician pulling an endless string of scarves. When I started I did not feel anything but as I did this more eventually at times I started feeling the energy. Sometimes it feels like pulling out lumps of cotton, others like a long wide band, sometimes others. After I mime smoothing the chakra closed to it's normal level and visulize layring a bandage of gold mesh over the area to protect it as it heals.

14. That's what I do too. (Counterclockwise for removing; clockwise for putting in)
I'll join you in this.

Celebration, you're the first person who I've run across who also does this. (Besides the person who taught me the technique.) The only other thing that I was taught was to also perform a step in between to remove from my hands/arms the stuff pulled out so that I'm not putting any of it back. Does your method do that also?

very soon, I think I am going to leave him alone to rest for the night and see what happens.

Humans tend to feel the pain of injuries more the next day - but I think the animals are more receptive to universe's energies...and I think they heal faster, especially with all the help from everyone here.

Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 12:32 AM by JanusAscending
Do Newfies have problems with their trachea's like my Bichon does? I can't use a choke collar on mine. Is it in his throat, or the back of his neck? I massage my dogs throat with my hands when he has an attack. He just freezes up in a stance like a male horse peeing, and "whoops" until it passes. I panicked the first few times it happened, and made it worse. Now I speak calmly to him and massage until it passes. My baby developed his problem when he was a pup and tried to jump off the groomers table with the noose on his neck! I use reiki massage on his back and shoulders all the time!

He just has a regular collar, but what you describe would freak me out, too.
I have been massaging since it happened, since it does seem to soothing to him. I also try to feel any oddities, but so far have not been able to find any - not even a warm area indicating inflammation.

17. he may have injured his spine in the neck area
By 2nd and 3rd, do you mean C2 / C3 vertebra? That would explain the extreme pain and difficulty walking and moving around. If so, this is a serious type of injury than can have lifelong repercussions. A regular vet will not be able to fix the underlying cause, only treat symptoms.

Get him to a chiropracter vet for exam and re-alignment. Healing hands will only re-align the vertebra with *correct* manipulation.

Jakey injured his neck in the C3-C4 area 18 months ago -- subluxation of those vertebra. About 10 days of rest with metacam healed the *symptoms* of extreme pain, but not the underlying cause. But as with any malalignment, he now was compensating, which resulted a couple months later in a subluxation in the shoulder blade area. Rest and metacam healed those symptoms, but again didn't fix the underlying problem. Several months later, and now the problem was in the lumbar region of his back. That was when we went through our ordeal last September, before I found a chiropracter vet. One treatment, and within a couple days all symptoms were gone. One follow up treatment a week later, and his spine has been fine ever since.

Yes it is C2 & C3, but as of this morning it may already have shifted and spread.

Wow, the chiropractor you found must be really good, I am glad you found the relief for him.

It definitely looks to me also like subluxation, as I have it on and off myself.

I am hoping my vet can come - but he is quite some ways from where we are now, and totally booked with house calls today.

Unfortunately he is still in pain - but he does get up to walk. I have to bring his water bowl to his mouth, because he does not seem ready to bend down to drink.

Since the vet is not able to come - we are trying some small dose of pain med for the time being - it has been an hour and it does not seem to have much effect, but then again - when my own neck goes and pinches the nerve, no meds help.

With all the wonderful energies directed at him, I trust he will feel better sooner than later.

26. do you have any Hypericum perforatum on hand? It's a homeopathic for nerve pain/injury
http://www.herbs2000.com/homeopathy/hypericum.htm

Hypericum is prescribed for people who are depressed, frightened, or shocked following an injury or accident. They may be nervous, overexcited, constantly drowsy, talk while asleep, and forgetful when speaking. These people may also experience a constant sensation of elevation or falling.

Key physical symptoms associated with this remedy are injuries or wounds that feel more painful than they appear, with extremely sharp pains, perhaps in nerve-rich areas such as the fingertips or the base of the spine. The remedy may be used to relieve pain following operations, accidents, and is also given to help prevent tetanus. Nervous pains in phantom limbs after amputation, and toothaches or discomfort after dental treatment, may also be helped by the remedy.

snip

Hypericum is used to treat shooting nerve pain that usually travels upward and nerve injuries, for example, after an operation or accident. Hypericum is the most important remedy to use whenever there is an injury to any part of the body with a high concentration of nerve endings, for example, the fingers, toes, spine, eyes, lips, nail beds, and head. Hypericum is effective for concussion with sensations in the head, such as an ice-cold feeling, and eye injuries. Hypericum acts on the spinal nerves, and is given for severe back pain that travels up or down the spine.

If this seems to fit the symptoms and you have some on hand this might help until you can get further treatment...

32. Another thing you can try
is oral arnica tabs for relief of muscle strain and bruising. I get them in the homeopathic section of my health food store. They are small and dissolve in your mouth and no side effects. I use the gel for muscle aches - it's an amazing thing.

I am getting the problem is more muscle strain/spasm and under his right chin and back to his neck fwiw.

34. Update: He is doing quite a bit better today
I think fewer movements are causing him pain, and he can now sleep on his side, but still has problems getting up from a lying down position. I still have to bring water to his mouth.

We went to an acupuncturist this morning - and wow, what a huge difference when he was done -

All smiles, wagging his tail, shaking himself (which he could not do) ready to go and all bouncy. He may have gotten too exited - when we came back, he lied down - and - yelp. So he is cautious again.
It will take some time -

I am hoping he quiets down a little and sleeps and lets the healing take place, with all of this help he is getting!

Thank you All! :hi:

So glad your big sweetie is feeling better :) Here is another thing you might find useful - MAP healing conings for pets. I found a site w/the instructions so you don't need wait to get a copy of the book if you want to try: http://rondaswonderland.blogspot.com/2009/07/healing-coning-script-2.html btw flower essences aren't necessary. I have never used them myself when doing conings on myself or others. I never got the hang of muscle testing so I just wait 5 seconds until I quasi-feel something is connecting and then go to the next step.

45. Thank you all - yesterday, he slept most of the afternoon, and this
morning we slept in.

I myself for some reason was sooo out of it, I did the same. We slept most of the afternoon, and through the night and then some. Incredible..

I was hoping that the pain would be all gone after such a good rest, but I still have to bring the water bowl up to his mouth. He does not want to bend down. I hope I did not spoil him. He is the messiest water drinker on earth.

There may be additional areas - like the front of his neck, a chest muscle? Looking up provokes a yelp, too, so I was not sure whether it is the chest or his spine at the shoulder level. Often times, adjustments make the pain travel until all is back in alignment - He has not done a good shake since right after the treatment.
Once I saw on some program, what a dogs shaking does - it is incredible - it totally re-aligns everything, and if he is wet, compare the shake to a washing machine - tumble cycle!

At 140 or 150 lbs, he is perhaps small for his breed, but incredibly strong - I may have to rethink and get him a different collar - more like a harness, as he ages. :(

46. please..it reads as though he needs a chiropracter vet to manipulate
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 03:40 PM by northernlights
his spine to get it correctly aligned, to prevent further nerve damage or damage to the vertebra themselves. His behavior seems *exactly* like when Jake injured his neck, and somewhat worse. Jake had no inflammation or heat anywhere either (and I have about I've 35+ years experience now palpating for pain response, heat and inflammation in multiple species.) The pain is response to pressure on various nerves. Inflammation of nerve linings won't be something you can feel on palpation.

Jake *appeared* to be better after 10 days on metacam and rest. But although that took down the nerve inflammation, it did not actually fix the underlying problem. I ended up almost losing him.

You did not spoil him. If he's having trouble reaching his bowl...he's having trouble reaching his bowl. If he's yelping when looking up -- he's hurting.

47. I have not found a chiropractor vet in the area, yet
and with even human chiropractors, I only trust very few.

I have been checking whether there is a particular common problem with Nefies and found 2 interesting sites, which may also be interesting to others here. While one of them is for Newfies, but the general information and links are very informative:
http://www.newfoundlanddog-health.info/home.htm

The other is offering a course of canine massage therapy
http://www.caninetherapy.co.uk/courses/intropysiologyanatomy.htm

I will try again.

48. I found my chiro vet when I called to the big hospitals
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 06:47 PM by northernlights
looking for alternative treatments for herniated discs. The regular vet misread the x-rays and misdiagnosed his problem as herniated discs. One of them sent me to the chiro vet I take him to now.

I understand your concerns. The reasons I didn't take Jakey to a chiro vet immediately after the neck injury was exactly for that reason. I didn't know who to trust...

Mine trained in chiropractic at Tufts in Mass. Maybe you can try the nearest vet schools to see if they can recommend anyone...
