Has anyone grown potatoes in an old trash can?

I have a few with cracks hanging around that could be repurposed. I also have some chicken wire, so I could do a wire cylinder instead. Anyone been there done that? I am already late to plant, so I need to make a decision today.

1. Well, not a garbage can per se.

But large barrel planters, and they do great.

The container doesn't matter, as long as they have decent soil and you take good care of them in terms of the watering and fertilization.

Go for it, it should work out just fine.

2. I am finding you can grow most anything well in containers...just picked some superb

radishes planted in 10 gallon pots - much better results than in my garden soil!

So I'm betting potatos in a trash can would work. I'd maybe bang some holes in the bottom for drainage?

5. Old tires, stacked...

I first plant the potato in the back row of the garden, let it grow a foot tall, remove the leaves, put an old tire around it and fill the tire with compost and straw mix, tucking soil etc into the tire, some people here turn the tires inside out? As the plant grows I add tires to the stack. Roots and potatoes grow along the stem and when it's time to harvest the potatoes or I just want a feed of spuds, I remove the tires one at a time and poke through the soil, picking up potatoes as I go.
