Southern Walmart (ugh, I know) shoppers, blue light special on 3 kinds of potatoes,

(red, yukon and russet) 2 kinds of asparagus (jersey something and Mary something), 2 types of onion (red and white), horseradish, 3 types of garlic (elephant, italian something and can't remember the name of other), strawberries, rhubarb, shallots.

These are all root stock, cloves of or starters. All for $2 marked down from $3.

There are tons of them available if your Walmart carries them. Should be on the inside of the garden center part or just ask someone and hopefully they can direct you to the boxes.

Now may be the time to experiment with some stuff you wouldn't ordinarily try out.

Beware of fruit flies and check that your cloves aren't all dried out.

Remember food stamps will pay for these just like they were fresh produce or other food!

P.S. I also saw potato and onion starters at Tractor Supply stores. I think they were around $3-5 for a large bag.

varieties. Mary Washington is heirloom asparagus. I transplanted some that was growing here in the wrong place and then I planted it in the wrong place and after their second transplant, all 4 plants are doing great. I also planted some Mary Washington and saw my first little sprig shoot coming up today.

But, back to Wally, they seem to be trying to do something more than just the very standards, which is great. I watch their markdowns in the garden section. They also have a lot of natives, which is what they mark down, it seems. My penstamon was pot bound, I got three plants out of it...all are doing well, so I got 3 really cool perennials for about 50cent each and they are beginning to bud out.
