Gophers like cilantro.
So far, my gopher has eaten three of my cilantro plants, ignoring all of the other plants in the garden. I will have my way with the critter eventually, but in years hence I will be planting cilantro around the perimeter of my gardens as an early warning system.

2. Licensed to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man free to kill gophers at will.
Sandy MacReedy: I want you to kill every gopher on the course.
Carl Spackler: Correct me if I'm wrong, Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key.
Sandy MacReedy: Gophers! You great git! Not golfers! The little brown furry rodents!
Carl Spackler: We can do that. We don't even have to have a reason.

3. I loved that movie!
Any gardener whose had to deal with gophers can empathize with the desire to resort to using plastic explosives against them.

5. That movie was so funny! I cannot see a Baby Ruth candy bar without thinking of the pool scene.

4. my gopher was having issues with my jerusalem artichokes for awhile.
not eating them at all, just having fun digging them up. I'd put them in the dirt in the day, in the night he'd take them out and line them up on top of the dirt.

6. How I got rid of my groundhogs (so far)
First, I had no fence at all around my gardens, groundhogs discovered it and had a party all summer, the bastids!

The next year I installed a wire fence but they dug under it, little @#$@#$# bums!

The next year I installed a border of 4x4 landscape ties 2 deep along the entire perimeter of the fence and they dug tunnels under it, rat finks!

This year I took 3 foot wire fencing, cut it in half and stapled it horizontally to the top of the landscape ties, facing out on top of the grass outside the garden and the little bastids haven't figured out how to dig under it (yet).

Yesterday I saw the mommy groundhog come to the garden with 2 of her babies and go around and around it, start to think about digging but then stop when her nosey hits the wire, started chattering to the kids and left - in a big huff I might add, to the neighbor's yard. Score one for the good guys!!

PS - I refuse to trap them because it wouldn't be fair. I have come to like them after all and consider this a battle that is both interesting and challenging.

PPS - This morning they retaliated by eating all the leaves off my rose bush - BASTIDS!

7. Have you tried hot pepper spray?
I don't think they like spicy food.
