"Breatharianism": my best friend actually argued the possibilities with me!
I've been friends with her since we were kids, when I used to be a lot more gullible. In fact, in my 20s I had a book that touted the great benefits of not eating "polluted food" but getting all your nutrients from sunlight and fresh air. Almost did me in, giving validation to my yo-yo dieting and a few other eating disorders. Bunch of new-age crap, and I figure since my friend and I are in our mid 50s, she would agree with me. But I was flabbergasted to find that she told me that "breatharianism" was totally possible. Like we're plants and can photosynthesize our nutritional needs. Are you kidding?

I asked her to send me some studies of people who've survived on air for more than 3 weeks. Still waiting. ITMT, I linked her up with this wiki entry, which disproves it completely.

WTF is wrong with people that they believe this shit? Especially when it's someone you're close to and respect as a smart person. No wonder the market economy is so powerful and keeps us down so easily if we swallow this hooey!

1. If we could somehow convert woo to usable energy,
we wouldn't need oil, coal, or nuclear anymore. That is some Grade A industrial stuff right there. Wow.

5. Hey Trotsky...
You know what this reminds me of? The dumb question asked at a SB years ago..."If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be..."

2. Breatharianism can totally work
But you have to plant yourself ankle-deep in a bed of soil with lots of manure.

4. And inject yourself with chlorophyll. And learn to breath carbon dioxide.

6. Exactly!
Notice there are plenty of stories about people dying from dehydration, but not a single one that proves anyone can live on air alone. I'm still waiting for that proof--guess I'm gonna be waiting for a loooooong time!
