According to one poster in GD. The same poster lashed out at another poster who pointed out that the "increased violence against women during the superbowl" hypothesis was proven false. Oh, and if you point out that testosterone is proven to increase aggressiveness you are making excuses for violence against women. :eyes:

1. There are ALOT of anti-sports people on DU
Mostly because they think its beneath them! I get it if you don't like it, but stop with the elitist snobbery.
See, I don't get how the party that prides itself on tolerance has soooo many people who spend their time belittling others....

3. Yup.
Anytime a sports-related thread ends up outside the Sports forum, you can GUARANTEE there will be multiple comments having nothing at all to do with the subject, but merely to announce that <insert sport here> is STUPID and they can't see why anyone would watch that junk.

Now granted, there are some sports that are acceptable to put in that sentence like "soccer." But you get my point. ;-)

BTW Sue, if you are a betting gal, put some money on the Vikes for that season-opener in New Orleans. The year after a devastating playoff loss, the Vikes ALWAYS beat their opponent in the meaningless rematch.

4. I'm looking forward to that game!
And...I hope Brett Favre is playing..Diva he might be, but I did enjoy watching him play for the Vikes last year.:)

2. Isn't it enough to call it one of the dumbest sports around?

7. I don't get team sports, never did
I hated being forced to play them when I was a kid and I can't stand watching them now, although I can tolerate the World Cup for a few minutes at a time.

However, the Super Bowl hypothesis was proven wrong because men who punch the wife because their team lost would punch her if they won just because it was Sunday and they were let down that the game was over for another year. Men who batter do it on any pretext. They do it because they're men who batter and it makes them feel good.

9. As a woman, I am absolutely comfortable calling that kind of remark sexist
It's a blanket statement casting aspersions on one sex without basis. If I posted in GD that shopping makes women into emotional wimps who won't stand up to abusers, I'd be blasted as a misogynist.

Why shouldn't the same be true for yahoos who espouse this crap about men. Where are the admins on this?

I'm getting tired of all the man-hating disguised - hell, not even so well disguised - as balanced and justified opinion.

Roethlisburger is one sick mofo. That doesn't make all men who play football or any other sport sick mofos. It's sexist to say so.

10. Now I'm confused.
Didn't they tell us all men are already violent misogynists?
