God of War II

Just got it yesterday. It leaves off right where the first game ends - you have all the same skills, weapons, etc. from the first game. It drops you off right into a battle.

I'm only about 15 minutes into it and already I've had two big battles, a boss fight, and a sexual encounter with two naked women in a hot tub.

Hell, he's the definition of Antihero. GOW 2 is sending off the PS2 in style...more than I can say for what we've seen so far for the PS3.

I love the X-play Kratos skits on G4...especially the COPS one where he beats up Link over Zelda (ala white trash) and the boys in blue investigate.

Hilarious...but in truth, Kratos would never let the 50 take him away....:D

GOW, and GOWII are on my to get list....

It looks good, I plan on wasting a lot of time this weekend playing it....:D

Gow2 is great so far, but I am totally stuck on this one boss battle right now. I may have to switch to Easy Mode to move on - I've been stuck here for a couple days.

Well, the copy of GOW I bought on thursday, was defective...I got it used...so I took it back, and got a new one, and today I popped it in, and it still won't work...I have no idea why its not working. My ps2 plays all the other games I got, I blew my console out with air, and cleaned the new disc, and still nada....all it does is show a black screen...not even the ps2 start up menu comes up....when I take the disc out, the ps2 menu pops up....

Any idea's on whats causing this? Its weird to get two defective discs, but all of my other ps2 games work like a charm on the machine....

There's no obvious scratches on the disc? That's just so weird - even if it can't be read, you should get a screen saying it can't read the disc - not just a black screen.

But... I did a google search and found this not-so-encouraging news:

This isn't a glitch with the game, but a problem with the older PS2 hardware.

If the disc is new or if cleaning/resurfacing the disc does not help, then
it may be a DRE (Disc Read Error) that some of the older PS2s have. If you
get an error on screen that says "Disc Read Error" when you try to power up
God of War, then you've got the DRE problem.
The problem is with the PS2 laser itself. It has either slipped out of proper
height alignment thus throwing off laser focus, or the laser has diminished
in overall amplitude thus diminishing its ability to focus. This is a slow
process of PS2 hardware degradation in which the PS2 may still read some discs,
but will have a problem reading others. Since God of War is a dual layered
disc, an older PS2 with a DRE problem will likely have a problem reading the
disc.
The only way to fix this problem is to adjust/repair the hardware (the PS2).
More often than not, all that is required is a simple adjustment (turn a
screw a few notches) in order to get the laser back into position for proper
focusing. In some cases, however, the laser itself needs to be replaced.
Sony fixes DRE problems on the older PS2 models for free, but you have to pay
shipping and handling. There are SEVERAL web sites on the net dedicated to
DREs and how to fix them yourself if you're technically inclined and feeling
adventurous.
Basically, if you get a DRE, then you'll have to put the PS2 in the shop or
buy a new one. The newer PS2 models have added protection and more robust
laser systems that help avoid this problem.

I got a slim line ps2....hmm, its about...I think my bud got it in march of 05...and he gave it to me for xmas of that year, cause my ps2 from 01 was shot.....

Again, thanks for the info, my bud is a computer tech guy, and he'll be down in a couple of weeks, and I let him peruse some of the DRE stuff, cause its just about all lost on me...

BTW, there were scratches on the used one, but the new one...clean as a whistle, no scratches, nothing....the weird thing is though, I put the game in, then turn it on...its nothing but a black screen...just plain black....I hear it spinning, but nothing comes up...I can pop the top off the ps2 and the second I take the game out(while ps2 is still on), the main menu pops up with the browser/options screen...I then put the game back in, and then I click on broswer, and all it does is do the read disc song/dance, until it comes up with a "disc read error"...its probably the DRE thing, mentioned in your post though...although, the ps2 I got now, really isn't that old....

that's not too old. I have a slimline PS2, too, from about the same time (if not earlier) and it plays it fine.

I did have an xbox slowly fade when the laser got out of alignment, but I could often get a disc to work if I just kept trying.

Ah well, go catch that damn fish in Zelda and get on with the game - it's really a lot of fun!

I had to bite the ugly bullet today, and I got another ps2...good thing, GOW now works....I just hated dishing out the money for it, but I needed another one anyways...

I still can't believe that used/refurbished units are only about 20 bucks cheaper than a new one...I was grilling the game exchange guy today, about why the price difference is so minimial...he didn't give me a good reason...but he did try pushing a PS3 on me!.....:D

I finished GoW2 the other day - it was great fun!

utterly fucking awesome....the function, where you can hit 0 to do a bad ass killing move, and things like that, are utterly awesome...game play is pretty damn good, but I do got one gripe. I wish, they had a way where you can scan all the way around, and see what Kratos see's...sometimes, when he is looking straight, all I get is a side view of him, and I can't SEE what he is seeing, and its kind of aggravating, especially when you are in a jumping/finesse part of the game, when you got to swing on ropes, or walk planks. Perhaps there is a function like that, and I haven't figured it out yet!

Currently...I'm on top the roofs of Athens...I figure I'm close to 1/4th into the game...

the camera work was my only complaint, too. Well, that and I thought the game was kinda short.

the temple in which, pandora's box is hidden in....so far, I still totally love the game...but I do have a most hated bad guy now...those damn medusa's....I'm at a part in the temple, where I have to fight like 5-8 of these medusa's, and its very hard for me to shake them....they usually turn me into stone, and the hit me once, and I break apart/and die....

I just got the titan slaying sword, so I'm pretty damn sure...that after I get pandora's box, that Kronos and I will have to ...well, get it on.
