Guitar Hero 2
A friend of mine has this game for the 360, and after playing it I ran out the next morning and got a copy. It's around $95 including tax for the game/controller package. I have it for the 360 and it is so addictive. The X-Plorer guitar controller is very fun to rock out with and the fret buttons are good for sliding. BTW, I've never picked up a real guitar - that's the beauty of the game. It gives you the feeling of creating some cool music. If you want a refreshingly original game and enjoy rocking out, get this ASAP.

1. I've got it for PS2
The 360 version looks cool but I'll be damned if I'm plunking down another $90 for another guitar and game. Right now I'm trying to get 5 stars on all the Medium-level songs. The only ones I have left are Carry Me Home, Institutionalized, Jessica, and Free Bird. Hangar 18 is probably my favorite song of all, but some of the unlockable songs are fun to play too, especially Jordan, Mr. Fixit, and Thunderhorse. I'm jealous of the fact you get to play Iron Maiden on your version, though.

4. Can You Buy The Game Sans Controller?
Seems like some enterprising individual would design a universal adapter for the controllers.

5. I think you can.
But I'd first make sure the mod is possible

2. I'm One Of Those Anti-Guitar Hero Snobs.
You know, the ones who say "I play a real guitar and games like Guitar Hero dumb-down playing a real guitar". Lucky for me though, my wife just picked it up for my sons birthday. It's the perfect excuse to play it non-stop.

3. LOL
This game is terrific. It' a nice change and so much fun, too. I'm almost done 5-starring all the songs on medium. Working on passing the 2nd set in Hard.

6. I have most songs 5-star on medium, and perfect on about 6 of them...
...then I try almost anything on hard and barely avoid getting booed off the stage. There's something about having to move the hand back and forth for that effing piece of *&^% orange fret that just makes my hand go totally frozen. Seriously. Like I see notes I have to hit and usually my pinkie and ring fingers sit there and tell me where to shove it. Guess I need to keep playing until I loosen up some more. :D

11. Hangar 18 sure is a bitch, huh?
Still haven't 5 starred it on medium. I know what you mean about hard. It's all about the hammer-ons and pull-offs. Remember the bump on the yellow fret as a reference. I have my hand trained for medium (blue fret), have to retrain for hard - = orange fret. Plus nail HOs/POs.

14. Gawd, I can't get those hammer on/pull off things worked out. My hand
is as defiant as Doctor Strangelove's.

8. Wow, I'm Surprised At How Hard It Is On Even Medium.

It's a real hoot. I had a gem of a moment this morning when my 5-year old daughter woke me up singing Rancid.

7. Just Announced - Guitar Hero : Rocks The '80's
http://www.thelastboss.com/post.phtml?pk=2786

Seven songs announced so far:
* "I Wanna Rock" (by Twisted Sister)
* "I Ran" (by Flock of Seagulls)
* "Round and Round" (as made famous by Ratt)
* "I Want Candy" (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
* "Metal Health" (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
* "Holy Diver" (as made famous by Dio)
* "Heat of the Moment" (as made famous by Asia)

Also, this a PS2 exclusive. But it wouldn't surprise me if some of all of the new songs made it to XBox Live.

9. I am drooling over this one
and I hope that they dig into the bottom of the barrel for some of the one-hit-wonder gems out there that have awesome guitar melodies. I REALLY hope it's not another metal-fest like GH2 mostly is. Not that I hate metal, but that's not the only challenging kind of music by any stretch.

10. If they really want a challenge they should throw some Grant Green in there.
His stuff that he put out right before he died (early 70's) had incredibly long and intricate guitar solos. His guitar solos on "Flood In Franklin Park" or "Jan Jan" I'm sure would be as tough as any metal song - maybe harder.

15. I Just Got Guitar Hero Encore:Rocks The 80's yesterday
IMO the title should be Guitar Hero:I Should Have Bought NCAA Football 08 Instead Edition. The song list is dubious at best (A Flock Of Seagulls? C'mon!), and there's no way it's worth spending $50 for only 30 songs. But at least they finally have Iron Maiden on a PS2 game. I'd give it a 5.5/10
