Explain to me why D&D and other fantasy role players are geeks, but
people who participate in Fantasy Football are not?

I do both (I like D&D, Fantasy Football, Bamff, etc). But when you tell people you're in a fantasy football league you get fewer looks of "Loser!" than if you say you are in a gamer group.

I'm curious,"Why is that?"

on note: I am married, I have four children, I have a well paying job and I live and work overseas -- which seems to shock people when I tell them I'm a gamer -- like gamers could never have real lives.

1. Perhaps because those who participate in Fantasy Football
are "dorks."

At least that's what I might be tempted to think.

3. 'Cause fantasy footballers are more threatened by the word "geek."
They may not be secure enough to face it, much less revel in it.

4. Cultural expectations
if it helps, the other group of geeks are computer savvy people

I'd say it is also becuase DnD and other RPGs are written in an alien language, just a C++ or things like Java script. For the average joe Football is not that alien and scrimmage line is part of the national vocabulary. Never mind I don't watch football, but THACO? That is far from any national, hell even regional, vocabulary
