My complaint with the Playstation Store

You have to put money in your "wallet" in increments of $5. Everything I've seen for sale is $x.99, which means I'll have to make 100 purchases to use up all my money.

In the meantime, Sony gets to use it interest free. I call shenanigans.

1. That's NOTHING compared to XBox Live "points"!

At least when you buy $5 or $20 or $50 worth of PS Store credit, you know what you just bought and don't have to convert it from :wtf: "points" into actual money!

XBox points are like $50 for 4000, so you have to sit there and multiply the cost of stuff (which just for shits and giggles is NEVER something simple like 1000... it's always 800 or 160 or some other lame shit) by 1.25 to know how much actual money it costs. I can do the math in a snap so it's not a huge problem for me, but the gaming press is constantly giving Microsoft grief over their practices, and I don't blame them.

with the Zune. I looked into this a couple of years ago when an extended member of my family got my daughter a Zune gift card instead of the iTunes gift card she had asked for.

Yeah, with iTunes you buy in even increments but exchange it in the x.99 way, but the Zune card was just weird. I finally traded it to a guy on Craig's List for a couple of Border's gift cards. He said the Zune is set up to use the same economy as the XBox Live economy. Microsoft strikes again.

and it allowed me to put in exact amount.

a new level for Assassin's Creed II. $3.99. Now Sony has $1.01 of my money for free.

I don't think this is so.

I buy games and add-ons from the Playstation Store and I don't keep any money in my wallet.

I just have the Playstation Store charge my debit card like any other online purchase. Playstation will place the exact amount in my wallet and then immediately empty my wallet.

I think the wallet is there for parents who wish to give their kids some Playstation downloads as a gift.

Next time I buy something from the Playstation Store I will pay close attention and report back.

I haven't put money in my wallet for a long time, if you have your credit card information entered it will allow you to make a purchase with an empty wallet and it will just bill you for the exact amount. I have done this several times and it has never given me a problem.

8. OK, I played around with this and I see the problem.

The min amount you can add to your is $5.

If you buy something for $9.99, you only need $9.99 in your wallet.

If you buy something for $2.99, you still need to pay at least $5 to your wallet, which would leave $2.01.
