Video Gamers - have you ever been so into a game you pre-ordered it?
I play a lot of video games, but not ONCE have I ever been so much into game that I didn't buy it after the price went down SIGNIFICANTLY.

Until now. I'm seriously thinking about buying the upcoming Fallout Vegas because I know I'll be spending so many hours on it, per-hour, even at $60, it will be one of the cheapest things I've bought for my entertainment. (I've played Fallout 3 on and off for well over 300 hours)

But this would be a first time for me. Assuming you've bought a game at pre-release or even new at full price (something else which I've never done before) what was the first time you did it, and did you get your money's worth?

1. twice
Once, for Mass Effect 2. Again for Fallout: New Vegas. Usually it's because of DLC that comes with pre-ordered versions.

But in general, I buy used. It's only for games that I'm truly excited about that I preorder. I'll probably order Mass Effect 3 a year in advance ;)

2. Tried Mass Effect, but didn't get into that much. I heard ME2 was better.

I should give it another try.

Yesterday I bought Fallout NV from Walmart because they had an exclusive offer with some DLC as well. Amazon had a similar offer, but Walmart's shotgun was better than Amazon's machete.

3. ME is my favorite game universe, ever

Mass Effect 2 improved a LOT on the first one. Controls were smoother, fixed the absolutely asinine inventory system (by removing it, lol) and improved the general atmosphere.

The only problem with skipping ME1 is the loss of backstory, plus the loss of the benefits of importing a character (extra money, experience, resources, etc). Also, I've found that the default for "choices you made in ME1" kind of blows... but I only started a fresh ME2 character without importing once, so maybe it changes randomly.

I preordered NV at Gamestop; I get (I beleive) a Weathered 10mm pistol, an armored Vault 13 suit, a Vault 13 canteen, and 5 stimpaks. At least I HOPE that's the one I ordered... I know I get the casino chips, etc

5. oh... so many...
Telengard was probably the first, back on my Atari 800XL, very worth it. Some have been worth it, some have not. I've learned what genres I like and which I do not, also what developers make good games and which do not.

6. I pre-ordered Oblivion
and that was before I even had a 360!

It's the only game my wife will play.

7. Half-LIfe 2: Collector's Edition.
Only because it came on one DVD, rather than six CDs.

Pre-purchased every vALVE game since. Never been disappointed.

8. Yeah, a few times.
First time was a SNES game back in the day. I can't even remember which one it was. Probably Final Fantasy III (aka: Final Fantasy 6) or Chrono Trigger. And yes, it was worth not having to wait.

Hope New Vegas is awesome! :)

9. A few times
Oblivion. In fact, I went so far as to buy a new PC to play Oblivion on, because the one I had at the time wouldn't run it. :P

Civilization IV.

KotOR II (which blew)

10. SHUT YOUR MOUTH
how can you not like KOTOR II?

Doesn't compare to the original, or the other champs of the genre, but still...

11. KotOR II
I think I would've liked it if Obsidian had, you know, actually finished it. :P

Not entirely their fault--I heard they were rushed to get it out in time for Christmas. But the game really felt half complete and that's what ruined it.

The first one, however, I loved more than pie.

12. haha, true
I liked the story, and a lot of the gameplay, better than in kotor I (though the mindfuck at the end of I is hard to beat)

It's been years, so maybe my RPG tastes would have become more refined since then...

I'm shocked xbox has never released "classic" versions of those on the 360. I'd also love to see a 360 "Jade Empire"

13. Mass Effect II, Call of Duty, Starcraft II,
and all the Splinter Cells.

And I agree about Fallout 3, I've lost giant chunks of my life to it!
