Going rogue
My favorite build in ddo is rogue. Currently I have a 10th level mechanic that is not uncommon for her to lead in kills as well as obviously disarming all traps. What a blast it is to play her.

What I will never understand is why someone with a splash of rogue rushes ahead of group to disarm a trap when a freaking mechanic is there. They cannot possibly have as high of a disable skill as a mechanic.

DDO is, of course, a computer version of pen and paper D&D. It is a role playing game that uses stats, logic, and reasoning. If you were on a mission to accomplish X would you really risk the mission and/or the lives of your party members to have a person with a lower disable skill disarm the traps? Where is the logic in that?

When the artificer class came out I heard someone say that they will make rogues obsolete. Ha! Running my fighter through VON last week there was no true rogue in the party, just the splashy people. The party suffered more than 10 deaths, probably closer to 20, because a)they didn't have evasion and b) because the traps in VON have a high dc.

I am frustrated enough that this rogue plans to go rogue. I'm tired of the "stranger danger" of answering lfm's seeking trappers to be constantly undermined by the stupidity and selfishness of some splashy builds. I plan to advertise for 1 or 2 people so to run a 2 or 3 person crew to quest with and avoid stranger danger. My rogue will soon no longer answer lfm's seeking a trapper. If more true trappers did this perhaps a renewed appreciation for the skills of a mechanic will emerge.

1. I kinda liked DDO
but once I hit lvl 4 I seemed to be looking at doing the same 4 missions 200+ times. I was in the town. Is there an area outside where there are fresh quests for level 4-5?
Sorry to be a pain.

2. Yes there is so much more!
It sounds as though maybe after you did the adventures in the harbor you made it to the market and did redfang, proof in the poison, and the swiped signet. From the market you can go to house deneth, house kundrick, and phiarian.

Take some time to explore, click on the gates and see which ones you can travel through to get to other adventures. In the upper left corner of your screen where your backpack is located there are other tools at your disposal. The one that looks like a book, the journal, will show you all (you won't see all of them at a low level, i think just up to level 7) of the quests and where to find them. Unfortunately the journal doesn't distinguish between pay2play quests and the free2play ones, so you'll just have to learn that as you go. The journal will reveal more quests as you advance in level.

Many of the people who play are really nice and willing to help a newer player. Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't be put off if you run into someone who is less then helpful. Further more, the ddo compendium is your friend. I find it invaluable when seeking information about ddo.
http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Compendium_Home.

And you are not a pain. I was helped by many good natured people to show me the ropes. People who play are just like people in real life. Some are power gamers and don't won't to take the time to help out a new player, others see it as a social game and are more then willing to lend a hand.

Best of luck to you, hope to see you around :hi:

3. Has the quest pathing been improved?
The one thing I really noticed about DDO was that it was somewhat unclear as to where to go next. As much as WoW bugs me sometimes with its over-simple graphics (although they've really started to improve in that department), they really learned how to path quests very well, so you go from one area to the next with a clear destination in mind. I never really was able to figure out what story or quests I was supposed to continue on in DDO.

I may have to give it a shot again. I hear they've really improved a lot of areas.

But if you really want to see horrible user experience, play EVE Online: Amazing-looking game. Boring as an insurance seminar.

4. I've only been playing a bit over a year
So i don't know if they have improved since you have played. Again, i would recommend the quest journal that is in the menu bar with your backpack. Also, if you google ddo free to play quests there is a list of all of the free to play quests. Here's the link, I think you will find this most helpful: http://ddowiki.com/page/Guide_to_Free_to_Play

Also, use the lfg option. Its the tab in your menu bar that has faces on it. Under grouping it will show people looking for members to join them. It will show the level of players they seek and which quest they want to run. For lower levels it will often just say "Korthos" or "harbor".

Many people "favor grind" meaning do the low level quests quickly so to earn store points to buy things they need from the ddo store. I do this myself, it is how i have gotten my pay to play packs. It is difficult for new players if they get in a group with players who are favor grinding because they are less likely to help you or explain things to you. Don't let this impede your game play, there are other groups and people who will be more helpful.
