Let's make New Orleans the "World's Most Accessible City"
it has long been known as the "World's Most Interesting City"; no argument here!

Think about it. All that new construction. All those major modifications. And all of it triggering ADA -- unless the repukes manage to "suspend" it for the emrgency, and I wouldn't put it past 'em, either. :puke:

But barring that, once all is said and done, what we will have is the most ADA-compliant of all cities, suitable for meetings, headquarters of disability groups, and much, much more. I had heard of a similar proposal for citywide accessibility involving Adelaide, Australia. No offense, Adelaide, but we deserve the best, and New Orleans will again be the best.

2. Actually many of us view disability rights as a civil rights issue
so the two issues are not wholly separate.

The laudable goal of creating a racially integrated New Orleans -- or rather, re-creating it, since it never was segregated under French or Spanish rule and, in fact, did not become so until after the Civil War -- is outside the scope of the Disability Issues forum.
