Social Security Checks to Decrease for Millions
There will be no increase in Social Security payments that we normally get every year. We did get a good increase last year but it will not increase till 2012 at the earliest.

On top of that, our medicare is going to increase so our checks will actually be smaller!

3. SS never decreases the size or amount of payment.
If there is no COL increase, or even if the COL drops, the payment remains the same.

Enjoy your stay, yadda, yadda, yadda....

4. This information was put out quite some time ago.
The rules say an increase only when there is inflation. Parts B and D need to stay in line and there would be no decreases.

5. From what I heard the other day it's likely going to decrease $2+.
We live on SS only and that $2 isn't going to make that much of a diff.

7. unfortunately - for all the rationale behind the small decrease, the RW will latch on to this
and place the blame squarely on the D's - and warn of further cuts with the passage of any health insurance reform.

9. By law, SS can't decrease. The increase could be in Medicare D --
because insurance companies are expected to raise premiums for the seniors' drug coverage. I have a feeling there will be absolutely no net decrease in social security, even with a premium hike for Medicare D.

Some SS recipients don't even enroll in Medicare D. I have an aunt who is 88 years ago and sees a doctor for a check-up once a year, and is on no medication whatsoever. She drinks a "toddy" every evening -- and two on Saturday.

She told me when a lady at the grocery store asked her what pills she takes, she replied, "Well, for a hangover I take two Anacin."
