I can't get Kendra out of my mind. Three years ago, on my birthday, she surprised me by sending me the most wonderful book on Adrian, THE costume designer for MGM. In this forum, I had mentioned wanting to get the book for myself as a 50th birthday present for me. Lo and behold, a few days later, a huge package from Amazon.com showed up. It was the book on Adrian. In it was a note from Kendra, telling me that now I could spend my money on something else for my special day. That was just like her - always doing something special, something unexpected, something so generous, with her time and her thoughts.

So today, Kendra, our dear Longhorn, wherever you are out there, know that you are being thought of, missed and loved.

It ain't the same here without you. I look for your name all over DU and I never see it. So I'll keep it close to me in my heart, as I am sure many on DU are doing.

And it wouldn't be a post from me to you unless this guy got involved -
The Patron Saint of The Classic Film Forum....

May you be surrounded by love and stars.

Miss you.

1. Kickin' it for Kendra.

At another group the other day I stumbled on one of her old posts and found myself checking the date on it. It was as though she'd just been there, or had never left us.

This thread would not be complete without a good pair of cowgirl boots for her to stomp across heaven in.

Godspeed.

2. Another kick for Longhorn!
When I first joined DU, and started hanging out here in the Classic Films group, she made me feel so welcome. She always made comments on the posts, talking about her favorite movies and new favorites.

In honor of her birthday, I will try to make this more of a conversation about films and less of a rote listing, to engage the rest of you in discussion and not just use the postings as a substitute for the TV Guide.

Happy birthday, Kendra! We miss you! :grouphug:

P.S. Is that Robert Montgomery? How did he become the Patron Saint of the Classic Film Forum? Inquiring minds want to know!

3. Yes, it's Robert Montgomery. And you know, I can't remember HOW he became
our patron saint! LOL. I think it was because he always seemed to be in just about every movie we talked about on here.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me. Please!

Longhorn was such a movie lover. One time, she taped "Lifeboat" for me and sent it to me. I didn't get (and still don't get,) the channel it was playing on.
I LOVED that movie. I still have it here on my Longhorn tape, to be cherished forever.

I'm hoping that she is hobnobbing with the stars up in the heavens today. Sir Robert had better give her a good twirl on the heavenly dance floor. :)

6. I can't believe its been a year already
Longhorn and I used to share birthdays, hers was Aug. 20, and mine is Aug. 22. It can't possibly be a year since she passed away. I often read her posts here and in the Weight Loss forum. She had the gift of encouragement and was a giver. She was always there with a kind word or gesture for others. She was wonderful encourager, even though she had to be struggling in her own circumstance. She had such a big heart and I miss her a lot.

thank you Dem2theMax for remembering her birthday, and posting... :loveya:

7. Hi there Lavenderdiva. (I owe you a PM!)
It hasn't been a year yet. It's Kendra's first birthday without her here. Sigh. I have just had her on my mind so much lately. (Probably her way of getting me in here. LOL!)
And see? It worked. Geez, I miss that woman. Can't imagine how her family must be doing. But knowing how strong our Longhorn was, I would guess they are gathering strength from her spirit.

And by the time you read this, you should be celebrating your own birthday. So happy birthday to you!

I'll be PM'ing soon. Life has been NUTS.
