What resources have you found to help you live simply, frugally, in an eco-friendly and environmentally responsible manner?

DUer TalkingDog helped me find www.freecycle.org , and I'm already getting rid of loads of useful things I no longer need.

Your links?

6. Recipe Thief
Hey you know what I have done before on the recipes?? Go to a gourmet store and write down all the ingredients on the label, and the directions. They don't have the amounts but you can sorta fudge it, make a test pot for dinner this week, adjust the amounts if you want and then voila!

I did this with a 5 -bean soup mix that I saw in a super overpriced tourist trap in Catalina, what kind of soup are you wanting to make?

10. Encouraging local coffee shops
This is an example of one of the things going on out there concerning economic activism.

http://delocator.net

They are acting as a counter against Starbucks and other big corporation coffee houses.

"On the Delocator.net web site, users are enlisted into a temporary coalition to post information about cafés in their neighborhood (for instance, location, hours, open mic. nights, local artist exhibits, book readings, wireless internet service availability, organic and/or vegetarian food options, etc.)"

If you know of any local, independent coffee house near you, you can enter the information.

13. Very cool link...
One good thing I do have to say about starbucks though- they give awesome benefits to their employees! Those working 20 hours a week can have health insurance, so two thumbs up to that.

15. Site for socially responsible shopping
alonovo went live this week with an early version of their website. They tie in with Amazon.com and users can purchase items using criteria such as social responsibility or business ethics. They do not use political contributions as a criteria, though. Still, this is going to get more people thinking about how they spend their money.

http://www.alonovo.com

E-commerce is a multi-billion dollar a year business and they want to get a part of this.
