"Curvers For Choice" What Do You Guys Think Of This?

I still have til Aug on my Curves contract. I actually really like it but have been looking into alternatives after finding that the Curves honcho gives to freep-like anti-choice causes.

Here is a website by a fellow Curves client, trying to organize a forum in which donations are given to Planned Parenthood etc., in the name of pro-choice Curves clients.

What do you guys think of this? I did find an alternative that I am checking out however, it's farther away and more expensive.

You should definitely continue at Curves until your contract is up; you either already paid for it, or are obligated to pay for it, so not continuing would be essentially throwing your money away.

The donations to pro-choice organizations sounds a good counter-balancing idea. Maybe if you stay at Curves, you could donate the difference between what it costs, and what you would pay for the other place?

I don't really know much about Curves, but if they are individually owned franchises, I would say continuing on beyond your contract would depend how you feel about the local franchise owner.

In thinking about going somewhere else, you have to weigh the additional cost, including the hidden cost of more mileage costs to get there.

Whatever flaws and negatives there are about the guy who owns Curves, on the plus side he did build a women's-only fitness center and expand it nation-wide, so there are a number of women who are healthier and happier mainly because they don't have to share space with sweaty, nasty, ogling guys.

about they creepy guys that hang around the pools at Bally's etc, UGH!! Like they hang around NOT SWIMMING and waiting for you to get out to casually start some lame conversation.

I had a fight with my Franchise owner over this because she is a lib and I told her I was leaving in Aug when my contract was up cuz I didn't want to support any nuttiness...she was pissed! But we sort of dropped the subject, LOL...

And send proof of your donations to the heads of Curves. Then let them know when your contract expires WHY you're not renewing, and that you're letting everyone around you know about their policies of repressing women when they claim to "help" them.

with the work and research this lady put into the site. But her idea was to renew her membership, and start a movement of Curves clients who would make donations to Planned Parenthood etc as a counter-balance.

They would only cancel the donations out-- but the pro-lifers would still be getting their dollars.

1. I've done circuit training (which is Curves' speciality) before, but I get bored doing the same exercise routine all the time. I also like the sociability of a scheduled class.

2. The YWCA states that it has the following missions: empowering girls and women, promoting health and fitness, encouraging early childhood education, and fighting racism. I like those missions.

I've become a regular at water aerobics, which has multiple instructors, and Pilates.

I do belong to a YMCA by my house but unfortunately, it's not as nice as the YWCA by you. I really only use the pool. I try to do Curves training MWF and swim T & Th. My family goes hiking weekends.

If I did lose Curves I guess I could make up the difference in the Y weight room but I do like the circuit and that you never have to wait for people to get off the machines etc. with the circuit training. Also I like that you're out of there in half an hour. With the swimming it's more like an hour and half once you change, dry your hair, pack up the swimsuit etc etc!

I really didn't think Curves was doing anything for a long time but when I wore a cocktail type dress I haven't worn in a couple of years for an Xmas party I was really surprised at how much stronger my arms, shoulders and back looked now than in the old pictures, when hiking was my main exercise. I'm sure any free weights or other kind of regimented upper body work would have similar results though.

But this is definitely a good idea. Some people may not have a wide range of options for fitness memberships, just as many can't avoid shopping at Wal-Mart. Maybe concerned Wal-Mart (etc) shoppers could take a lesson from this.

I do have options and I should use them but I do support this woman's effots to counter the Curves CEO guy. He sounds like a lunatic!
