Got the sniffles? Don't grab a Kleenex
As reported by Greenpeace:

"Kleenex, one of the most popular brands of tissue products in the world, contributes to the destruction of ancient forests in Canada. Its manufacturer, the Kimberly-Clark corporation, has been unwilling to improve its practices, continuing to rely on paper and pulp made from clearcut ancient forest including Canada’s Boreal forest. Kimberly-Clark clears these ancient forests, essential in fighting climate change and providing home to wildlife like caribou, wolves, eagles and bears, into products that are flushed down the toilet or thrown away.

In response to this wasteful destruction, Greenpeace has launched an international public campaign against Kimberly-Clark with US-based Natural Resources Defence Council and other environmental organizations."

1. Good to know, thanks!
I'll stick to my 'unbrand' with it's recycled content.

2. If you can handle them, try handkerchiefs.
I buy mine in bulk from the Amish ladies who live on the next farm east of my great-grandfather, about 30 at a time for less than $1 each. I carry four or five a day, and when I've used one, I drop it in a ziplock in my backpack. Each night, I put the used ones in the laundry.

If you can find them, they're the best option - environmentally friendly, soft (softer after 10 washes than any tissue I've ever found, and they just get better), and reusable, so they don't take up landfill space. 30 last me a year, by which time, 6 or seven of them have gotten lost or holes, and I need to buy more. If you figure a box of tissues is $2, and the average person goes through 2 a month, I'm ahead cost-wise, and I'm supporting a way of life that's constantly in danger (though I do wish they'd consider letting their kids get educations in line with their society... sigh.)
