Buying a new house, need to fill it...

I've been checking buyblue for stuff. Definitely going with Working Assets for a cell phone. Going to bed bath and beyond for most stuff. I need to buy some plates and stuff. I might buy off the web from Crate and Barrel which is a blue co. but I'd prefer to buy from a small manufacturer that sells over the web or through catalogue if you can recommend someone. Thanks.

Find a local freecycle group. Hit the resale shops in your area. Hit the HGTV website for information on how to build your own N.

We found a gorgeous set of dishes (complete but for 1 missing tea cup) at the Humane Society Thrift store, and the money went to help the local Humane Society. I've bought a second set for special occasions or whenever I feel like using them from the humane society.

Check your phone book for a restaurant supply shop and buy there. Most of them are independent, local businesses and sell professional grade supplies rather than eye candy for consumers.

Be patient and be willing to look about until you find the thing that you really, really want, rather than something that the advertisers and PR people tell you you want.

You can find oodles of things there. I've even heard of people listing cars, though I'm sure that's not a common event. Here is a link to a PA Freecycle Yahoo! group that you may find helpful. Good luck filling up your new home!

They do have a strict return policy. I believe it's a 20 or so day limit. If you miss the deadline, they aren't lenient. I ran into that one time and now am careful to open my packages immediately and try out the product. I had sheets that weren't sized quite well and they wouldn't change their policy and let me return them. Maybe I just got a tough service rep. Otherwise, I like Overstock very well. Their prices are fabulous.

Pottery bought at art fairs/ festivals often costs no more that what can be obtained at the big chain stores, plus you're supporting an American artist!

I'm always finding terrific buys on all sorts of household items. There are always good prices on baskets and plenty of choices. Sometimes those little fill-in items can be pricey at the regular stores and rock bottom at the thrifts.
