Sorry Jen6. I guess you will have to adopt the mantle of leader
be our spiritual leader and help us through this tough start. I know you want to see things happen right away and get us moving down the road with great momentum.

I will definitely try. It has been tough these days to get time to post much. The election was a huge energy drain and I'm picking up the pieces.

I will try to suggest some things like get togethers with locals. then reporting our success.

I have another funny telemarketing story to tell you tomorrow. It's fun way to spend time.

1. She already has
it's up to we the followers and kindred spirits to support her.

I'm personally finding it a bit difficult to "show" a lot of support. I already am pretty much a minimalist, so it's tough to say 'Here's what I did today...' that is different from what I do any other days.

3. you are correct. she already has. merely pointing out how much
we appreciate what she has done to get the ball rolling thus far. I am sure there are many people outside of this forum who are having similar thought patterns and possibly taking extraordinary action. For the purpose of feeling connected to that and having people feed off one another's energy...we need to hear those stories and ideas.

Hey, I am in agreement that we can't just talk and make noise for the sake of hearing ourselves. It is ALWAYS about DOING things...but it's like the "DOn't Litter" program of the 1970's.

Each citizen had to be made aware that their little contribution to the problem adds up quickly.

If everyone realizes how just a LITTLE adjustment and a "pssst..pass it along mentality can REALLY make a difference."

Howard Dean wasn't kidding when he said:

"YOU HAVE THE POWER! YOU HAVE THE POWER! YOU HAVE THE POWER!"

2. Heheh. Well, DU groups don't have "leaders"
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 11:27 AM by Jen6
Thanks for the vote of confidence, though. The best I can offer right now is continual encouragement (prodding, nagging) of non EA&PLG DUers and others to get active and realize that their fate-all of our fates-are dependant on what we do or don't do at this very critical moment in our nation's history (people have called many recent points of history "critical", but in the case it truly is)!

What's frustrating is hearing so many talk about "fighting" when apparently for many of them that just means voting and posting on DU. There ARE a lot of liberals out there who are trying to make a difference; Bev Harris, Eloriel, TruthIsAll and others are doing a great job with the BBV research and action, which will play a large part in determining the future of democracy in this country. But MOTIVATING liberals has always been a tremendous challenge. I wish I knew the secret to doing it (if it's even possible)! I've been in charge of things like film studio production before, and "leading" there is pretty simple; identify ability, delegate, then step out of the way and let the artist or employ do his or her job. But motivating individuals to make important life changes for their democracy? That's a tough one.Together I hope EVERYONE on EA&PLG can find a way.:-)

4. Take baby steps
Making huge lifestyle changes is a process, not an item on a to-do list that can be accomplished in an afternoon.

I managed to cut $320 out of my monthly budget for starters, but still haven't gotten around to identifying my staples and the best places to buy them. But I feel better as long as I am making progress in that direction.

On a related note, once I started cutting animal products out of my diet, it took me three years to really get my new routine perfected. There were some places where I had to learn to compromise, or I never would have been able to maintain it long-term.
