What kind of sticks work best with a MIDI kit?

What kind of sticks work best with a MIDI kit?
I was using 12's and couldn't get any kind of a full sound no matter which set I used.

I just picked up some 2's and 7's. They're not so heavy they'd damage the sensors, right?

1. The Sensors Are Likely The Same. . .
. . . as those on the pressure sensitive weighted keyboards. And i've had those for years and never had a sensor go bad, no matter how hard i hit them. I know i don't hit as hard with fingers as a drumstick, but i'd be quite shocked if the drum pads weren't designed to take an awful lot of force. The sensors definitely are.

2. What kind of kit are you playing?
It's likely that there is a way to adjust the pads' sensitivity to make them more responsive to lighter strokes.
