Thoughts on a basic sound system (mixing board and power amp)?

I need to put together a basic system for a school. We already have some Community speakers, and are currently running a Mackie board and Peavey power amp. Both are on their last legs. The board has WAY too many channels for our needs (10 single channels, 3 stereo pairs). Anybody have any thoughts on what we might want to get?

think it's a good little unit with eight channels, power amps and effects built in.
On another note. Are you playing jack's this year at the shore and, if so when?

Not playing Jack's this year...or any other for the foreseeable future. We've moved pretty much into exclusively private gigs. Weddings, corporate, that sort of thing. We do the occasional festival as well.

3. Good Choice. I've Got Another Option

Berringer mixer and a QSC amp. I've had a QSC amp that i've used as my keyboard rig power for more than 20 years. BULLET PROOF!

And the Berringer offers a little more resolution in the EQ's is better than the Mackie.

We used Mackie as a practice system for several years, and then turned it around as monitors on stage. They are also very rugged, simple to work with, and provide solid sound.

But, if you want an "all in one" system, then Mackie is an excellent choice.

If you want a little more versatility and power, then the QSC/Berringer option is better.

4. The Yamaha EXM series of piggyback mixers might work for you...

Fairly cheap, excellent sound, and brain-dead simple to operate. I've used a EXM 660 for 5 years or
so and had no problems so far. It'll power two mains and two monitors, perfect for small gigs and
practice.
