Shame on you, John.

I supported you, donated money to you.

You have a beautiful, smart wife and you can't keep it zipped up.

I'm very disappointed, to say the least. :(

If there's anything good to be said at this point, it's fortunate that he isn't our nominee, but the GOP will have a field day with this anyway.

Of course, John McCain would never cheat on his wife, being the Christian, conservative, family values man that he is...

....oh, wait..... :eyes:

(Sorry everyone, I love John but he should have known better. He's smarter than this.)

1. I feel like a fucking sucker.
He's a very good liar, I'll give him that.

Too bad the M$M won't be reporting on the way McCain chased Cindy around a buffet table while he was married with kids.

Or any of his other womanizing escapades.

Just like they didn't report about Poppy Bush's mistress or the cushy WH job he gave her.

17. every thing you have said is right on the mark
but there is another casualty and that is the next time that someone campaigns emphasizing poverty issues the media will assume that he is a fraud and look for his hypocracy. It is a major setback.

3. I agree, Andy. I'm extremely disappointed in him. I don't hate him; shit happens
and people, sometimes even good people, do shitty things and hurt the people they love. But how could he have been so goddamned stupid.

5. I still love John Edwards, but
had he been the Dem nominee, our goose would have been cooked. I'm angry that John was ready to risk the Dems losing in November, since he had to know the story would come out eventually.

I don't give a shit that he had an affair. That's between him and his wife. I'm angry that he was naive enough to think the affair would stay a secret and not be used against him.

8. Yeah, same here
All of us make mistakes but not all of us are in positions where they will be broadcast across the net especially when the repubs are out gunning for you.

This: I don't give a shit that he had an affair. That's between him and his wife. I'm angry that he was naive enough to think the affair would stay a secret and not be used against him. - EXACTLY.

(big sigh)

9. So McCain's goose is cooked?
Because he did the same thing.

Seriously, among the non-issue in the universe, this is the biggest (smallest?) non-issue ever.

10. If only!
It really irks me that the MSM doesn't bring up McCain's affairs, and the fact that he was disgusted by his wife Carol's disfigurement following the automobile accident she was in.

http://gawker.com/5028087/cheating-on-your-sick-wife-an-old-political-tradition

John McCain, you'll recall, had a very loyal wife who eagerly awaited his return from six years in a Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp. Unfortunately, a terrible car accident left Carol McCain both shorter and fatter than the swimsuit model she had been when McCain married her. Said to be appalled by her appearance, McCain started seeing other women. He left her for a rich 25-year-old (his current wife!) after buying Carol a beach house, which turned out to be kind of a cruel gift to a woman with bum legs.

But if a Dem's affair gets found out, it's the top news story for days!

6. Good people sometimes do stupid things. I feel very sad for the potential we were denied. I wonder
now - if this was the reason he left the campaign right before Super Tuesday.

It must be.

Elizabeth must know then. She said it was complicated.

Oh darn, double darn, and triple darn.

Et tu John !!

11. I'm sorry, but you are WRONG. This has NOTHING to do with him dropping out.
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 12:07 PM by Kerry2008
The story was in October and December. It didn't get much traction, and the media barely touched it.

He dropped out for exactly the same reason he said, he didn't think he'd be the nominee--and he was right.

With that said, I am very disappointed in John :(

12. Why I feel betrayed.
I could care less about who sleeps with who. It's none of my g-d damned business. My own distress is over his wasting his potential and potentially the good he could do for his country and for the progressive movement! At a time of great peril for this country and the world, when we need strong progressives more than ever, he was willing to throw it all away. I believed in him and so did many others. He certainly knew the realities of the current Victorian age in this country (and the f...ing double standard when it comes to Democrats as opposed to everyday repuke hijinks). Yet he risked it all in the face of these realities. For that reason, and for that reason alone, I feel betrayed!

13. I can forgive John...
... being a guy myself, I've teetered on the edge of temptation more than once. Had the chances laid at my feet - all wrapped in ribbon and ready to go. Each time I did turn away, but I could also envision a scenario where I might have given in.

I'm glad he dropped out. Obama's singing almost the same tune and I can sing along without a frown.

John, I'll miss you not being in Obama's organization, but there'll be other capable people brough to the fore. Go back to your private life and do WHATEVER you can to heal the wounds you've cause on Elizabeth's heart.

14. I've had that thought too
And the reason the media "sat" on the story was because they wanted to blow him out of the water with it IF he became either the nominee or the VP nominee.
I'm not that disappointed in him, however.
I think what consenting men and women do is their business.
It is between them, their God and their spouses/SO's.
It is none of my business and those types of questions should never be asked.
Now...on one of the tabloids THIS week, it says obama has a love child.
Has anyone even addressed that?
How do I feel about that?
The same pass I gave to Bill, McCain and Edwards.
It's none of our fucking business.
I'm NOT disappointed when humans are flawed.
We all are. Just in different ways.

16. I like what you say
The other possibility is that knowing of this, this was an unspoken reason to purposely overlook his second place win in Iowa. Just grabbing in the dark here, 'cause I'll NEVER understand how his second-place showing there was so blatantly ignored by the media.

19. Do you remember the threatening letter that came out from the national head of CofC?
I still believe that was what caused him to withdraw.

Speaking out against the corporations is still deadly in this so-called country.

Many interests had reasons to want Edwards "silenced".

Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 02:29 PM by bobbolink
and the sleezy media doing this....?

Why is it so damned hard for us to keep remembering all these other factors?

I still think Edwards was very dumb in not coming clean right from the get-go, but damn! If we don't GET what is really going on, what hope is there?

And, yes, I use the word "hope" purposely and very loosely.
