Edwards cancels all public engagements until after election
Clark to replace Edwards in debate with Rove

September 5, 2008

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The tickets say "Rove-Edwards," but now a debate at the University of Buffalo will feature Karl Rove and General Wesley Clark after John Edwards cancelled all public engagements until after the November election.

The UB Distinguished Speakers Series election debate is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept. 26 in Alumni Arena on the university's Amherst campus.

In 2004, Clark was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. He was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe for NATO from 1997 to 2000.

He will share the stage with Rove, former White House Deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush.

Edwards cancelled an appearance at Hofstra University on Thursday as well as future bookings, extending an exile that began last month after he admitted to an extramarital affair.

2. Edwards did the right thing. If he didn't, the circus would have taken over and anything

he said would have been marginalized and we do not need distractions.

Obama does not need Edwards to be a distraction.

It is a crying, sad, shitty shame that because of his choices....we have to suffer.

He threw millions of his supporters under the bus....and chose a common, ordinary woman.......over Elizabeth, his children, his parents and and us.

3. Sadly true
As an avid Edwards supporter, I wanted to disagree with your post, but couldn't. At this point in history, we really, really needed John and Elizabeth Edwards, if not in the WH, at least in the public eye championing the causes they brought to the table. I miss them both. Unfortunately, I don't know if John will ever regain the esteem he once held in politics.

4. We poor folk haven't had a "champion" for decades now.
It's time for the "common, ordinary" progressives to stand up and actually take action.

But they won't.

It's clear just from watching DU.

We can't continue to blame John when WE won't make noise.

:(

7. Elizabeth will be in Seattle on Oct 10
Just thought you would be interested in the followin:

Elizabeth Edwards will be the special guest a Washington Women Lawyers annual awards dinner. There will be a CLE (continuing legal education)class. The topic will be increasing the participation of women in elected politics.

The announcement of the event includes a long biography of Elizabeth, which does not mention John in any way, shape or form.

I recently met someone who had worked on JE's campaign in NC. This person is still very fond of JE, and says he is a good person who has human weaknesses.

9. I Really Understand, But Somehow I Feel He Was Shafted More Than
any other politician I know! I'm NOT condoning what happened, but I DO UNDERSTAND why it could happen. Long absences away from your spouse does make a person more vulnerable. And I also feel that many politicians have done the same thing but MSM looked the other way.

I recall comments about how The D.C. Elites hated John Edwards and I really think they were completely elated when this reared it's head. And from there it was non-stop!

I know how Elizabeth feels, been there myself... my husband & I have worked it out and it was a long time ago. I did divorce him, but we got back together. We both saw others while apart, but there must have been something there all along!
