An example of the grassroots Edwards campaign

At our Democratic Party congressional district convention this week, two volunteers from a Madison-based group showed up to promote Edwards. They talked to people before the meeting started, collected sign-ups, and made a fine presentation during the time for speakers. Another nice touch was the letter from John Edwards thanking the delegates for their work on behalf of Democrats in the last election--everybody got a copy to take home. These two young men were the only representatives of any campaign, and they did a great job. I think they will have been to every district convention in Wisconsin by the time they're finished.

The first entry was in late December, just before the announcement, so they've been at it from the very beginning. I think it's quite an impressive blog.

The point here is that this is all volunteer, all grassroots. With the way the primary season is stacked up, nobody will be paying much attention to Wisconsin with our February 19th primary. The Edwards campaign needs to be concentrating elsewhere, and that's understandable. But there's so much we can do by ourselves. It reminds me of the heady times during Howard Dean's campaign. Now I just need to find some time to join in the fun.

The Edwards group in our area and state collaborated with other area progressive and anti-war groups to sponsor a support the troops/end the war event. They brought resources to this effort that we have not had before in our efforts, including actual press coverage (TV as well as print coverage). I had pretty much decided to go with Edwards before this, but this has convinced me to cast my lot with Edwards.
