From Ripley's Believe It or Not
Jan. 2, 2006 issue

The part conveniently left out was that Chuck Ealey graduated in 1972, and the NFL was not looking to draft black quarterbacks. I wonder how many would search for Chuck Ealey to see why.

1. Even in the late 70s Warren Moon went undrafted
even though he was the MVP of the Rose Bowl. They still weren't looking to draft black quarterbacks. If he hadn't spent the first six years of his pro career in Canada, Moon would probably be the NFL's all-time leading passer.

I remember watching him in the CFL as a kid. Damn, he was incredible.

I don't know much about Ealey, but now I'm definitely interested to learn more.

2. Black History kick
:kick:

Black American history is more than just MLK, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and the usual ones brought up once a year.

4. What happened to Ealey?
Ealey just went into obscurity? Shameful but no surprise.

While Moon-watching when he was in the CFL, I noticed an abundance of Black QBs on their teams. And even then (early 80's) we didn't see much of them in the NFL until Doug Williams came thru in that Super Bowl for the Redskins.
