1. i'm seeing "ignored"...
...where respondents seem most disturbed (and members are saying "racist")...

if they're on my ignore list, i'm sure it's beyond disgusting. those that seem to take pride and a certain joy in sharing just how sexist, racist and generally intolerant they can be make my list. i don't want to see the their filth, and i no longer have the energy (or patience) to spend time "reasoning" with the ignorant and "unreasonable."

2. Looks like you have the right people on ignore.
Ugh..I don't know why I subjected myself to that mess. I will be seeing "ignored" from this point on.

4. i'm sorry....
Edited on Wed May-20-09 03:01 AM by bliss_eternal
...that you had to see "whatever" bit of insanity that was. don't beat yourself up about it, though (...responding i mean). i understand how challenging it can be "not to."

for a long time, i had no one on ignore and tried diligently w/many of du's biggest offenders. it became clear i was wasting my time doing so. so i utilized "ignore." every now and then i'll slip and respond to some truly deluded, inappropriate, joyously offensive, serial button-pushing member, hell bent on annoyance in the name of pushing the non-pc envelope (...and that's being polite on my part). but i'm always reminded why this is a mistake (on my part).

dare to hold someone accountable regarding a racial issue?
response---how dare you call me a racist?! or my personal fave....my black (or asian, latin, etc) friend isn't offended when i say that, why are you? :eyes:

dare to speak up for a woman who was assaulted?
response---why do you hate men? :puke:

3. Don't worry, girl. In 30 years when white folks have taken over hip hop
Edited on Wed May-20-09 02:37 AM by Number23
the way they have with rock n' roll and are trying to with jazz and break dancing, rappers will be thought of as "wholesome young men" instead of automatically being labelled thugs and murderers.

And when they're killed, people will hold candlelight vigils in the park to honor their "genius" instead of cracking jokes like they were less than sh*t.

6. IMO, that's one of the major reasons for the anger
rap and hip-hop are the last major music genres that white folks have not been able to usurp. We're now 30 years since rap has hit the major airwaves, and the only white rapper of note right now is Eminem.

They estimate that 70% of rap music is purchased by whites.

....i wouldn't have guessed the numbers are that high.
though i'm no longer surprised that the cars that pull up beside me playing rap are caucasian and asian kids.

i see a lot of the "wanna be's" when i visit orange county....w/their pants sagging, wearing the rappers "designer lines" and speakin' ebonics. lol.

poor children. (bliss shakes head)...i always want to pull up their pants.

20. That's true, but...
we should qualify that statement. The majority of consumers of rap music are white people between 18-30 years of age.

22. that demographic
....(imo) is dangerously clueless (not all but many i've seen from 18-30).

they were not born in the shadow of segregation. they weren't bussed to other schools (to be integrated). they live in more diverse communities (in some cases).

they regularly see people of diverse cultures represented on tv, in film, in magazines, etc. they hear things like "n*****" uttered playfully and by comedians & hip hop artists regularly. so in many cases they seem to think "the world doesn't suffer under the weight of racial issues, anymore." ....that's even w/people of color in that demographic.

i'm concerned about them--they are in for quite the wake up call, imo. :(

24. Agree
I worry about the young people of color when they are rudely awakened to the fact that things haven't changed all THAT much. They'll be doubly shocked when they find their "friends" are only fair-weather friends and will likely disappear when the going gets tough. Their white counterparts don't have to worry because they've never had to worry. When you don't have to worry, you don't care. :(

a lot of the usual suspects. :eyes:

Add to that the fact that lives of black people in general in this racial caste society have always been considered worthless. :(

Black people loot, white people find...any questions?

heard that one. It's suspicious how that mindset runs across most aspects of life, not just rap. I've experienced it right on this board. Sad but predictable.

one guess if you remember which ethnic group were deemed as "looters" and "thugs" on this board--and by some of the media outlets.

i left du for a week after that one. :grr::mad:

I shared a portion of that thread with my son, before the one-liners started. He thinks I am too old-school, too Rev. Wright. At times (un)fortunately DU provides ample teaching material. That one did.

18.  The Beverly Center was where I used to shop
my local mall when I lived in LA. I usually avoided all malls, but this was the closest, and a weird urban high-rise mall it is. It also houses the original Hard Rock Cafe, which later became a worldwide franchise. Right on the edge of Beverly Hills. I lived in, um, more modest style to the east.

I lived even closer to the intersection where Biggie Smalls got shot, outside the old Orbachs which became the Peterson Car Museum.

and I got to see the entire area blown to smithereens in that cinematic classic "Volcano". It is fun to see my neighborhood bear the brunt of Hollywood special effects. The LaBrea Tar Pits, the LA County Art Museum, LaCienega Boulevard ....

The locked thread is disgusting, and one poster in particular ...

19. Many white people in the music industry who aren't rappers
and are far more famous than this guy have been murdered or victims of violence. I highly doubt the tone of a thread about their deaths would've been the same.

I swear sometimes the attacks against rap really comes down to racist code words for those who subconsciously know it's more socially acceptable to attack "urban" culture than black people. Every time Akon gets into legal trouble and when Chris Brown attacked Rhiannon they become rappers in the media. It's easy to ignore profanity, negativity, and talentless hacks* in other genres but if somebody who ever though of making a mix tape in their basement gets into trouble they're the poster child for rap. Meanwhile any positivity from the genre is just an anomaly.

Of course this is subjective but Creed never represents Rock music so why is the "c" silent in rap because Lil Wayne gets so much radio play?

And you got all of that and didn't include a single link on that crackhead Amy Winehouse!

i didn't think of either of them, to be honest.

but now that you mention them, i guess i have a soft spot for courtney. is she crazy? do we really need to ask that question? ;)
the way the media exploits courtney's insanity bothers me. and amy was media fodder--big time! the media should pay that girl residuals. seriously.

i'd rather look at the dudes, because the media (and the powers that be) always trash women, but i can't.

25. I think it goes to show that there are a lot of assholes on DU
in fact, there are a lot of ignorant assholes on DU who know nothing about how washington works or how things work on a big, national scale--and that is evident by what these know-nothings say in their stupid posts.

A lot of the people on DU who post ignorant, racist bs are the same kind of people who bring a checkers mentality to a chess game. Chess is what Obama is playing here, not checkers, which is what ignorants plays.
