1. I forgot to post the rest. Growing due to the rabid hatred and
racism displayed on this board following the demise of Michael Jackson. Some even took this opportunity to throw in O.J Simpson as an example of their disdain. Why am I not surprised? Hatred, jealousy? So obvious. So transparent. So tragic.

2. Do you know I quickly got out of the forums because of that....

I dealt with it at work today. It was oh so sad that Farrah died, but then the jokes started about Mike and I really had to calm myself down. I let the entire area know I don't joke about death! I had to ask one asshole did Mike touch one of his kids? ""How do you have that much hate for someone you've never met?" I almost went further but I just took a walk. Lord, If I didn't need my job.

These hateful racist people in this world! :grr:

certainly about to get escorted out of the building. Luckily, they were quiet today. I think somebody spread the word to not piss off the black lady. :)

5. Girl, Bliss and I were battling the same psychopath in one thread
A simple request to stop dancing with glee over the fact that the man is dead resulted in so much nonsensical stupidity wrapped in batshit insanity it was like watching that girl from "The Exorcist" talking to one of her stuffed dolls.

Five different people asked her to stop but instead of doing so, this poster screamed that people were "censoring" her (why is that particular whine so common among the dysfunctional here??) and kept repeating that she was "laughing" at everyone asking her to show just a tiny bit of respect for a man who has died. My heart goes out to the families of Farrah and MJ. I'm not all that knowledgeable about Farrah, but I know that she suffered a terrible disease with apparent grace until the end. I hope they are both able to find peace and can rest now.

6. You should have alerted like I did. I told them that death was
not a joke. It was vile, heartless and inappropriate. I doubt they'll do anything about it, but I did it anyway.

17. I think the only reason that Farrah 'got off' was that..
for a few weeks she was the poster person for 'bad US healthcare'. (I think she went to France for an experimental procedure. I don't know much about her life either but I think she had one of the very bad cancers, ovarian maybe.)Otherwise, she would have been mocked as a charley's angel on Medicare.

Some people seem to have an almost physical need to be vicious. I recall when Anna Nicole Smith died, shortly after her son died in her own hospital room. (to make matters even worse, I think she was there having a baby.) "Fat gold digger trailer trash" etc. I saw her once on the Larry King show when he asked her abt marrying an 80-something billionaire. (Quite ironic, coming from a guy who's been married 5 or 6 times.) She said that the randy old goat who knew exactly what he was doing (my description, not hers) was the only person in her entire life who had ever cared for her and her son. It was such a sad statement and she certainly didn't seem clever enough to be play-acting there.

Compassion seems to be evolving its way out of the human genome.

19. "Compassion seems to be evolving its way out of the human genome."
Lord, isn't THAT the truth. And vicious is the perfect word to describe some people's behavior when confronted with death.

Anna Nicole was another good example. I could not have cared less about her; yes she seemed messed up and not all that bright. But when she died and left that innocent baby without a mother, I don't see how ANYONE could be so heartless not to have felt SOMETHING, even if it was only for the baby.

And people, like the poster Bliss and I dealt with, not only do they not feel compassion they actually feel JOY when someone dies. That same poster bragged about praying that Ronald Reagan died "a terrible, painful death." As much of a monster and madman as Reagan was, it really terrifies me that people don't realize that saying things like that say so much more about them than it does about the person they are wishing misery upon. They have psychiatrists for that kind of thinking.

When I watch the news and I see stories of people hurting children, I have to stop myself from doing the same thing -- from wishing great, painful misery upon these people. But I do try, if only for my own sanity and sure as hell not for the bastard hurting a child.

But I still think it's kind of a shame that the only way to keep a conversation "safe" from the high-pitched melodrama that repeatedly blankets DU is to not have the conversation at all.

Not only have they compared MJ to OJ, they've also used to opportunity to attack Al Sharpton, and wonder if the dead MJ is getting special treatment because his body was carried in a helicopter. It shocked me.

23. After catching the end of a C. Matthews/Sharpton interview this afternoon,
all I could think was, "Thank God for Rev. Al!"

I think Matthews was suggesting that if/when Michael Jackson's death is confirmed to be drug-related, an asterisk will be placed by his name in history books. Sharpton responded that he hopes there is a Rev. Al around when those books are written to ensure that if an asterisk is added next to MJ's name, one is placed next to Elvis' and Sinatra's also.

Are the Reverend Als needed today, in 2009, when we have an African American president? Tavis Smiley asked Sharpton in February and his http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=284355-2&showVid=true&clipStart=3355.10&clipStop=3477.71">response was as relevant and eloquent as always.

Some call Sharpton an opportunist. Some feel he is defined by Tawana Brawley. I'm just glad he is on our side.

15. I responded to one thread that was attacking Al Sharpton
Most people are unaware of his friendship with Michael.

The sad thing about those people is that they would be ready to fight you if you called them racist. I like to go back and forth with them. I may stop because I might be the one that ends up getting banned.

8. I'm glad I missed it.
Of course the quality of music counts but most of the emotional connection people feel to songs comes down to the memories they've attached to them. For a long time he made good music that so pervaded the market it was like a part of people's lives so of course a lot of people are saddened by today's news. Today I saw my mom cry remembering crying with her mom when he burned his hair and my brother who use to have the Thriller jacket in red and in black has been devastated because as he put on Facebook "There are some things in life that you never think of happening. Such a thing happened today. A major part of everyone's life was taken from us." If some people aren't or never were fans of his that's perfectly understandable but I'm putting it mildly by saying dancing on his grave today is tasteless and often it takes moments like these to show the true character of people.

10. Glad I missed it, too
was at my parents' house tracking down paperwork for insurance. I have no love for private insurance right now and if the government privitizes the whole thing and gets rid of the insurance execs (by execution preferred) I won't mind at all, but I digress.

As usual, the screaming racism, arrogance, and heartlessness of the racial caste system is on display. Kind words for Farrah, who was way overrated in the relative sense; few for Michael, who was a musical genius, but being black doesn't matter. The "class not race" racists can just ESAD, for the facts are in glaring detail. As seen on multiple occasions, money is not an antidote for race in a racial caste system.

14. I skimmed then moved on.
I have no desire to discuss MJ with these people. Frankly, I don't like discussing dead celebrities on the board as a general rule truth be told but I just knew what would happen. Sure enough, I saw exactly the posts that I expected to hear. Of course they see no irony in their behavior after the sackcloth fest that was the death of Tim Russert.

I'm sure I can find something else to do for awhile.

20. The presence of those kinds of threads pretty much tells me
that Skinner is only in this for the money.

A lot of those who scream "censorship" don't understand that they dont' have a right to disseminiation of their vitriol. And especially if they don't "own the press" or means of dissemination.

It is clear that society is slithering towards the vulgar and mediocre because that much is evident in the psychotic postings of those who take glee in spitting on Jackson's corpse before it was even cold.
