Elijah Kelley

Has anyone else heard of Elijah Kelley?



Most notably you can see him in the remake of Hairspray. Here's a clip:

He does his own singing an dancing and he is AMAZING. I saw this in 2007 and fell head over heels in crush. (Don't look at me that way, he's not REALLY 16! He's not even 3 years younger than me!) You can see his dancing best at the 2:00 minute mark. The actress who plays his sister is also amazing.

Anyway, it always made me sad that he never became more famous. I thought it was incredibly obvious who was the best singer and best dancer of the male roles and the one that gets famous is Zac Efron and Elijah Kelley is relegated to playing "black" roles (I think he's starring as Sammy Davis Jr. in an upcoming movie and also he got the part playing Bobby Brown in an upcoming movie).

It's sad that in 2009, you can be 10 times better than your costars but still be relegated to their shadows if you don't have the right look.

esp. if you're in the tradionally "white" sports, like Shani Davis. He was the first black American to win a Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics, and you heard nothing more. No endorsements or any of the extras that gold medalists normally get.
