Colin Powell talks about being profiled while he was National Security Adviser
this is a something I also posted in GD.

Like or dislike Colin Powell, and I am no fan..

he was profiled while he was national security adviser in the Reagan administration, which shows that no office is too high. At the end of the day, he is still black and subject to being profiled.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/28/powell.palin/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

The former secretary of state said he has been racially profiled "many times," including an incident that took place while he was the national security adviser to President Reagan.

"Nobody thought I could possibly be the national security adviser to the president. I was just a black guy at Reagan National Airport," Powell said. "And it was only when I went to the counter and said, 'Is my guest here waiting for me?' that someone said, 'Oh, you're Gen. Powell.' It was inconceivable to him that a black guy could be the national security adviser."

When asked how he dealt with the situation, Powell said, "You just suck it up -- what are you going to do? It was a teaching point for him. 'Yes, I'm the national security adviser, I'm black, and watch, I can do the job.' "

1. kwassa, thanks for posting this on here. Am no fan of Mr. Colin Powell,
he could have really made a difference but all of that is now water under the bridge with so many lives lost, Gitmo and the destruction of a sovereign country. If Mr. Powell is so remorseful, he should speak up against the Bush administration.

No doubt he was racially profiled even though he held a high office. Racial profiling did not end when President Obama was elected.

The Gates fiasco is just the tip of the iceberg and no doubt, it will continue. Who on earth would deem it right to handcuff a person who obviously needs a cane to walk and after showing his ID that he is the home owner. President Obama has a lot of guts to invite Crowley for a beer at the White House along with Professor Gates. Let's see how this pans out.

Am more concerned with health care in the US but the President is matured enough to know how to diffuse this wrongful arrest.

2. Powell came up in a different era
I'm not sure how close in age he is to Gates, but 50 years ago, the main point was to stay ALIVE and avoid being hauled off by the KKK. I finally saw the video of Powell saying it and he did try to be even handed. I don't agree with Powell but I'm glad he at least acknowledged that he himself had been profiled before.
