Armstrong Williams is a moron
Not that this is necessarily news but I'm watching this idiot on C-Span and he's giving the racism denier's mantra of "it's not race it's class" argument. I can just see it now. "See Armstrong Williams says it's class not race..."

Crap like this is why I don't watch Washington Journal. I don't need anyone running up my pressure first thing in the morning.

Love Joe Madison. He's on point as usual.

1. Did you see this bullshit?
"Cambridge Sgt. Leon Lashley gave a letter to Sgt. James Crowley to give to President Barack Obama during their so-called beer summit with Gates on Thursday night at the White House.

In the letter, which was also sent to CNN, Lashley says Gates "may have caused grave and potentially irreparable harm to the struggle for racial harmony.""

That shit pisses me off SO much. I have never and would never call or imply he was an "Uncle Tom" but I will absolutely shout from the rooftops that this guy is a fucking idiot. Incident upon incident where police have killed unarmed black men. The fucking shithead and his "jungle monkey" letter about Gates. But Oh Noez! Gates was mouthy to a cop and GATES has caused IRREPARABLE harm to race relations.

13. I saw it on the other board.
Of course, I would never use the word of a cop to determine the state of race relations but I'm sure there are some who are just rubbing their hands with glee as seeing a black face utter words that they themselves would like to say. I'd love to take the bet on whether or not that idiot cop had anything to say about the "jungle monkey" cop.

I bet there's a whole lot of nothing to day on that.

Lashley should STFU and let this go he'll just have to find another way to get his 15 minutes.

2. Ok then. I've got an 'incident' to refute Mr Williams' claim.
This afternoon my son and I returned from the city, pulled into the garage and my son ran in ahead of me (to the bathroom-ha!)through the side door and my husband had put the alarm on. Anxious to get to the bathroom, my son entered the code in backwards and the alarm went off. I ran in and punched the code in twice before getting it to shut off. As is standard procedure, the monitoring company called, but they called my husband on his cell and he in turn, called the house whereupon, I told him everything was ok. I don't think he told the monitoring co. b/c I had to leave again to go to the drugstore and the cops showed up while my son had stayed behind at home.

Upon returning from the drugstore, my son met me in the garage to tell me what had happened. He said, the officer was surprised, first of all, that a black person answered the door, as she looked him up and down with suspicion. Then, she asked for his id. My lab was scratching at the door and the officer put her hand on the holster of her revolver. My son told her that the dog was friendly and was harmless. She proceeded to tell my son to step outside on the porch and he gave her his id. She told him to put his hands up against the scout car while she proceeded to call it in. When she was satisfied that my son LIVED here, she returned the id and started lecturing him on restraining animals. Yeah, you heard it right.

Needless to say, my son was outraged especially on the heels of what has just happened to Dr. Gates. I told him no matter where he lives in this country as long as he is black he can expect that kind of treatment. I think he is more determined than ever to being on the fast track in getting his degree. I really felt bad for him but these are lessons he must learn to survive.

I live in the suburbs of Detroit in Oakland County. Anybody who is familiar with Michigan can tell you this is the third wealthiest county in the U.S. It's NOT CLASS!! IT'S RACISM!!

8. I'm from Oakland County
my family lived at different times in Royal Oak, Huntington Woods, and Birmingham.

I've many relatives in the area, no immediate family.

Detroit was so segregated that when I was little, I don't think I ever met a black person.

9. Uugh!
That makes me so angry. I know Oakland county very well. I tell my sons the same thing. I especially remind him because of where we live now. It just makes me sick! And then you have fools on TV basically dancing a jig and saying anything thinking they will be magically accepted! :grr:

3. Oh God. If I had a machete for every person who trots out that
"it's not race, it's class!one!" bullshit. All you have to do is ask "then why are so many prominent, WEALTHY blacks/Hispanics/Arabs that have been racially profiled/discriminated against?" and it just shuts them down.

5. True that! I've got to find an excellent article in yesterdays
local paper that adressed this issue and was written by a black columnist in the Detroit Free Press. When I find it I'll post a link.

Thanks Nunmber 23, for your support and understanding.

10. Happens w/asians, too...
Edited on Sun Aug-02-09 11:00 AM by bliss_eternal
...you see lots of asian families of wealth, frequently living in areas that are predominately caucasian in so cal(i.e. Palos Verdes, Anaheim Hills, Calabasas, etc.).

Whenever non-ethnic people are seeking a reason for *their kid's* delinquency, meth use, truancy and other bad habits, they'll find a way to blame it on a a yellow, beige, brown or black kid...gotta' be their influence. :eyes:

So I've seen some blaming asian kids in predominately non-ethnic, well to do areas. The stereotypical presumption is they're involved in "asian gang activity."

:eyes:

Yeah--all those people are involved in gangs.

11. It's amazing watching people try to turn an incident involving
a Harvard professor into a class issue.

The assumption some have that people from certain ethnic backgrounds are of certain classes and are prone to certain behaviors is a race issue.

12. Hammer meet Nail!
It's amazing watching people try to turn an incident involving a Harvard professor into a class issue.

TELL IT.

"Classicism is the new racism!!one!" is DU's tired new mantra. The fact that Racism is the Old/Current/Future Racism is something they are completely unable to understand. Shit is forever touted as the New something, as if the Old whatever has been fixed when nothing could be further from the truth.
