Obama's Approval Slide Finds Whites Down to 39%
Obama's Approval Slide Finds Whites Down to 39%

Since the start of his presidency, U.S. President Barack Obama's approval rating has declined more among non-Hispanic whites than among nonwhites, and now, fewer than 4 in 10 whites approve of the job Obama is doing as president.

...In the most recent week, spanning Nov. 16-22 interviewing, his approval rating averaged 49% overall, 39% among whites, and 73% among nonwhites. Thus, since the beginning of his presidency, his support has dropped 22 points among whites, compared with a 7-point loss among nonwhites. :wow:

...Blacks' support for Obama has averaged 93% during his time in office, and has been at or above 90% nearly every week during his presidency. Thus, part of the reason Obama's support among nonwhites has not dropped as much as his support among other groups is because of his consistent support from blacks.

Other key data:
The more educated the group polled, the higher the support level:
* High school diploma or less: 50% approval
* Postgraduate education: 57% approval

Liberal support: 82%
Conservative support: 27%

Money Quote: And though he maintains widespread loyalty among Democrats, the small loss in support he has seen from his fellow partisans seems to be exclusively from white Democrats. It is important to note that this pattern is not unique to Obama. For example, Bill Clinton averaged 55% job approval during his presidency, including 52% among whites but a much higher 76% among nonwhites and 82% among blacks.

1. As a side story......
My hubby and I were sitting at Dinner the other day.

He asked me how come I don't talk about politics as much as I used to.
I told him because everyone is dogging the President about something or other,
and no one wants to acknowledge the good that he is doing....
cause they want what they want now, and if one of their pet issue isn't being addressed,
then they don't approve of Obama in general".

He said.....(and I'm kind of embarass to repeat it)...."that's White People for you.
They don't know how to do anything but to dog a brother. They can't help it. They'll start
to appreciate Barack when it's too late, and they've got some White asshole in there
doing all kinds of crazy *ss mess. Then, they'll come around and love him to pieces. That's why this country is so backwards."

I told him not to talk like that....

to which he responded, "I'm not the only one who understands what's going on.
But that's alright, cause the next time some White politician or some group
asks me for support, I'll tell them to go to hell".

He was visibly pissed.

2. I hear ya, Frenchie but look at the OP
White Democrats apparently don't like ANY damned Democrat in the White House. According to the Gallup data, they shat all over Clinton too.

It kind of makes you wonder -- why the hell are white Democrats democrats at all???

5. Oh, girl. I've known forever that Dems can be every bit as racist as Repubs.
They're just slightly better at hiding it. But nothing like electing a black man to the highest office in the land to make them really, REALLY show you what they're about.

I certainly don't believe that all of the Democratic criticism towards Obama is caused by racism. But damn sure ENOUGH of it is.

Add to that fact that apparently far too many white Democrats are naturally predisposed to automatically hate every person that they work to put into the White House the millisecond that person takes office (or in Obama's case before he even takes office) and the amount of crazy is just too much to even try to understand.

4. Hey Frenchie,
You shouldn't be embarassed.

I've heard similar statements from family and extended family all through the Holiday week. Your hubby is not alone in his thinking.

6. I know.....
My cousin said basically the same thing; Those White people ain't got shit to do but to criticize everything this man does. She was mainly talking about the Teabaggers I suspect, and those in the media (cause she mentioned that she can't even watch CNN anymore, cause you can see right through their bullshit)......but if she came here, she'd want to kick some ass.

She's disgusted with politics and doesn't even want to talk about it anymore.

7. No shock there
white people in general don't like the idea of black people in charge or in a position to affect their lives.

8. Oh boy are you right on that one......
most truly can't handle it. When we first moved here, two guys quit the company my husband works at for just that reason. One guy had been there almost 20yrs. He hadn't really even spoken to these guys or changed one thing-other than the "complexion" of the management staff.

disappointed in the man, including his stance on Afghanistan despite the fact that he must have said 6 million times that Afghanistan was a war that must be won and that he would escalate it. Love the policy or hate it, can't NOBODY claim they didn't know.

I got a PM to a thread in GD that was full of the same assholes whining over and over and over again about just how DREADFUL he is and why they have been so awfully, terribly frustrated with Obama and how he has just disappointed them over and over and over again, even before he was sworn into office! You know what's truly humorous? These fools think that no one can see right through them.

10. Side note on this: How often have you been told by a white person that "all their black friends are

embarrassed by Obama now"?

Or that "real people" (you know, not the white upper class that all Obama supporters are perceived to be on DU) don't like Obama anymore?

I find that so odd...it's not been my experience at all while enthusiasm has cooled, the picture people are trying to paint just doesn't fit.

I'm sick of white people telling me what "my people" are feeling--even if it runs directly contrary to what all of the polls are saying. His approval with Hispanics (my people-heh) is at 70.

I'm sick of white people telling me what "my people" are feeling

Preach! Despite a 91% approval amongst my people (de Blacks) we are constantly bombarded with slimy, smarmy posts from anti-Obama assholes who have burned calories trying desperately to convince people on this board that "black people are fed up with him too!" What's really funny is -- you notice how it's only EVER other white people that fall for this "we're so concerned with what these brown people think about the President! REALLY!!one!!" garbage??

11. I guess for some whites, supporting a black candidate was the "fashionable"...
thing to do at the time. You have to wonder if a Chicago born black person, with two black parents, could ever have even won the primary, let alone the office. We saw out and out racism on this board during the primaries from longstanding members of DU. It's much more subtle these days, but it's still here.

to happen here. I've been a donating member to this site for years, and I'm heartsick that the disruptors have been given free reign. Other than that, everything's cool. Happy Holidays to you & yours.

I keep my posting to a minimum. I check in this forum. and most recently the Barack Obama forum. Nothing but negativity any place else.

We sure as hell did. And let's be honest, it's still here and most of it is not even the slightest bit subtle.

There is a poster in GD who has been cracking me up. S/he has posted about a hundred times that many long standing posters here have "lost their damned minds." And everytime s/he posts that there are about ten "amen" posts from people agreeing. :)

Glad to see you here! I hope that you'll come and hang out more. :hi:

I sure will. It's the safest place to be, on DU, if you don't hate our president (lol).:toast:
