About 70 soldiers from the 23rd Chemical Battalion are expected to return to Fort Lewis, Wash., on Friday after serving in Afghanistan.

The unit deployed in January 2007 to provide base operation support to five different forward operating bases in theater. The soldiers provide life support functions such as billeting, security and range operations.
