EL PASO, Texas — Some 150 New Mexico National Guard soldiers have returned from nearly six months in Iraq.

A Company of the 200th Infantry arrived Thursday at Fort Bliss, where the soldiers will remain for a few days before returning to the company’s Rio Rancho armory.

A ceremony formally marking their return is set for Tuesday.

“I’m very excited to have him home,” said Amanda Stahl, whose husband, Sgt. 1st Class Edward Stahl of Las Cruces, was among the returning Guard troops. “I feel like a great weight has been taken off of my shoulders.”

The commander of the New Mexico National Guard, Brig. Gen. Kenny C. Montoya, said 130 soldiers with C Company of the 200th Infantry remain in Iraq, but he hopes they can be home by the first week in March.
