Airman charged in shooting death of airman at party

A decorated veteran of the Iraq war was arrested Tuesday in relation to an accidental shooting death of a 20-year-old fellow airman.

Jonathon Higgins, 22, is accused of shooting John Howry, 20, at a part Monday.

Howry served with Higgins in the 341st Space Wing Security Forces Squadron, stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

“The Air Force and the leadership of the 341st Space Wing send their condolences to the family and friends of the victim,” 341st Space Wing Vice Commander Col. Paul Gydesen said in a statement. “We stand ready to support the family and friends in any way possible during their time of need.”

Higgins made his initial appearance in a Cascade County district courtroom Tuesday afternoon on a charge of negligent homicide, a felony. He appeared by video from the Cascade County Detention Center, where he was being held on $25,000 bail.
