PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh-area man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing an Iraq war veteran during a robbery in 2006.

Twenty-two-year-old Mark Anthony Love, of McKees Rocks, was convicted in January of second-degree murder and other offenses in the shooting death of 20-year-old Eric Martin. The second-degree murder charge carries a mandatory life term.

Martin was shot in the back at a West Mifflin public housing development, where his mother and stepfather lived. Investigators say they found a gun and crack cocaine on his body.

Martin was a specialist with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He served with a supply unit in Iraq before settling in McKeesport, about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
