BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says a soldier has died in a non-combat related incident in Iraq.
A statement says the Multi-National Force — West soldier died on Sunday.
Further details have not been released. But the soldier’s division is responsible for an area west of Baghdad that has been an insurgent stronghold but has seen a dramatic drop in violence over the past year.
The military statement issued Monday says the incident is under investigation. The soldier’s name is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
The death raises to at least 4,088 members of the U.S. military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That’s according to an Associated Press count.
